Thread: 2014 12 bolt

    2014 12 bolt

    I have a chance to get a 2014 12 bolt out of a 5.3 powered silverado
It has 900 miles on it.

My question is would it be worth getting to use it in my 89 c1500?

And the only info I found on it for gears is to buy some for a 2013 14 bolt and a kit from eastcoastgears to make it work in the 12 bolt. Is this my only option?

The 2014 trucks have "12bolt". At least the cover has 12 bolts.
    Looks like:
4.3 still uses the 8.625" diff
    6.2 uses the 9.76"
5.3 uses the 9.5" unless its a 3.73 towing equipped truck, then it also gets the 9.76"
Both the 9.5 & 9.76 are 12 bolts and even share diff covers, axle shafts, & several bearings.

Is it worth keeping and building or should I stay with my ol 12 bolt?

10 bolt, 12 bolt, or 14 bolt has nothing to do with the number of bolts on the cover. 10,12, and 14 bolt refers to how many bolts secure the ring gear to the dif. Common mistake

If you've got that down, then you'd realize that you aren't getting a "12 bolt". Look at the shape of the housing from the rear and you can pretty much figure it out. 10 bolt rear ends look basically round, while the 14 bolt has a peak at the bottom. Look at how many lugs too
