good old 6.5" coaxials in front doors (disconnect factory tweeters for better sound). 4x6 rear in reg cabs and extended cabs, 6.5" in rear doors as well for crew cabs. This info is for 99-06 gm trucks. 07+ have some funky mounting plastics built into the speakers. You can either buy adapters or just cut the original speaker out.

If you must use coaxials, I liked my diamond d661i 6.5". I still amped them though.

Last thing on my list also, but still good to do research. All I am going to have is a real basic set-up.

I run polk audio db6501 components without an amp and they do fine with an aftermarket head unit Alpine iDA-x305s. I wouldnt buy anything else than an Alpine h/u top notch quality, Kenwood second choice.

I had infinity kappas that served me well for many many years, finally blew the tweeters with too much power. Replaced them with Power Bass components and blew one mid, they only lasted a few months.Ordered up some new Precision Power components to replace them, hope they sound good. I like really a loud and clear front stage.

If your powering your doors with a deck run some DD CXS 6.5's if your running an amp run some DD CS 6.5's. I've sold quite a few of both people really seem to like them. Back that with DD 1500 series or two and you'll have a setup.

I know it's been a while since this post but how do you think these polk audio db6501's will work if they're amped? been thinking about getting a set

Digital designs would be a better option in the same price range.
