    Need Help Choosing Gears

I've got a 2000 GMC Sierra rcsb with the 4.3l v6 and stock (3.42) gears. I daily drive it and live in an area that has a lot of hills, but I also do a decent amount of highway driving. The truck has to downshift into 3rd and sometimes 2nd just to get up the hills, and I was wondering if a set of 4.10 gears would solve this issue. The only mod my truck has is a Magnaflow cat back. Suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

4.10s and a tune would definitely be a good choice.

5.3!!!!! nah.. A tune would be my first thing I did. I wish I had my 3.23s back honestly. 4.10s would certainly stop the downshifting. I have 3.73s and mine hardly ever does it, unless I am going up a huge hill. If I had to choose another ratio for a 2wd, it would be 3.42. I would love to have 3.73 or 4.10s on a 4wd on 33s.

Thanks for all the input! I figured the best thing to do for the time being would be to shift the truck into 3rd on the hills. Everyone I know that drives one of these trucks with the v6 has the same problem and complains about how underpowered it is. The only reason why I bought a truck that had the v6 is to save money on insurance. Hopefully in the future I can get my hands a v8 truck!
