just got an LQ4 to swap into my 92 4X4, wanted the LQ9 but had to settle for LQ4 engine. What do I need to bring the power up to the other one (345/380)? Or more of course, if feasible.

The biggest difference between the LQ4/9 is the flat top pistons in the LQ9 which gives in more compression and more power. I would suggest tossing in a mild cam and you will surpass the LQ9 no problem. Even a really mild cam like the 212/218 will get you there. I am sure you plan on a custom tune with the swap which will help. Motor wise the simplest thing is a cam after that heads and bolton's for a bit more. Plenty of N/A stock bottom end LQ4's making 400+rwhp.

waiting to go in... 3.90s, 214/220cam
thanks that sounds good enough for now. It will be much better than the worn-out 210 HP 350:LOL TBI I`ve been stuck with ! Looks like a cam and air intake change, and of course computer tuning is on the way.
I may be mistaken, but are they not equal on hp and torque. Only difference is compression ratio isn't it?
Difference is LQ4 has dished and LQ9 has flat tops. The difference in power isn't much really.

Stillwater is the name of the creek down the road from our home, where my daughter and I go play in the water. I`m in Indiana.
Where's the best place to find a lq9 in good shape? I know they were used in the 04 escalades, but what else, I don't know.
escalade, denalis and silverado ss
Is there a way to distinguish a lq4 from a lq9 without opening it up?
