    408 Stroker

Was wondering what internals most of you guys run? Looking for a good reliable build at a lower cost. I've looked at some Scat and Probe combination kits for around 2k. Also looking into a K1 crank and Wiseco k464x3 pistons along with K1 rods. I can get this combination of K1 and Wiseco kit for around 2k also. Block wise either find a cheap lq4/lq9 block or buy one from summit racing rated at 1400hp already bored to 4.030 for $750.

As for the top end, L92 heads or worked 6L heads. I think i'm going with some kind of cathedral port head due to I know where a LSXrt intake is for cheap to match up with this. I've got the valvetrain and the cam covered.

I'm not wanting to go too crazy but either way you go you are making 550hp minimal with a very drivable truck.

Any ideas or words of wisdom would be appreciate.

Have you looked at Texas Speed's kits. http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1016-ts...-assembly.aspx They are probably the easiest to customize to your specs. Personally I would go with an l92 top end with the Holley intake. Is that 550 goal at the wheels or at the crank? I would also buy a junkyard lq4 because if you buy just the block your going to have to go throught the hassle of finding all the little parts to get the motor complete. Bolts, sensors, and other random stuff.

I think with a goal of only 550 and wanting a good driver you should go with a stockish 6.0 cam, heads, and TVS unit. You will make reliable power that can be daily driven very easily. If you do go with a 408 the best heads come from WCCH and EPS could spec you out a killer cam. Good P&P LS3 heads flow as well as anything these days. Lots of good builders out there and some bad ones too. I am sure a few people will chime in soon.

There are n/a 408's with decent sized cams and smaller ls6 heads putting out 425 lb/ft at a mere 2500 rpms. That's pretty stout considering my current 5.3 doesn't even put that out anywhere. So that with a 3200 would be a killer compared to what I have. I will be building this with father.

And I don't mind FI, but i'd rather go turbo if I ever do.

What were your peak numbers? What turbo were you running? And how was drivability and mpg's? Better than a 408 i'm sure.

you "might" get 550hp at the crank with this setup but not at the rear. there are pretty wild n/a 408 in f-bodies with the parts or better, especially the cam, that only come in around the 500rwhp mark. yes they are still drivable but not nearly as easy to get the power and reliablity you want as a turbo or blower motor on a 6.0

Yeah those are goals at the crank. It's just a built 408 N/A motor sounds meaner than a turbo'd 5.3. Heck idk what I want to do now.

very true, though calculated horsepower on my 408 is way north of 550 this is to the wheels but then again it takes a light weight rotating assemly ( lunati ) light weight valve train ) ferrea/pac ,heavily ported heads ( i use ls3 heads ) fast 102 big mouth of course, and a nice 25x/26x cam!! but then again this isnt your normal build lol

i couldnt agree more, back up a couple years id have a nice turbo setup without the heavy camming of a NA setup, and always have the power at my feet

NA setups are nice, i did a 6.0 lq9 with ls3 topend and made good numbers ( 480+ at the wheels ) and was great to drive, <---- i opened up my pocket book to do this build though, wasnt to radical and it was great to drive!! yeah i miss it lol

weigh your options, longivity id say turbo, the power is always there, NA noise maker that gets irriating every once in awhile.. <---- but i like the cam raddler lol
    Simple: 408 on steroids!
