Does the front drive shaft turn when in 2wd? I am starting to believe it is my front diff

Yes it still turns. I'm guessing u joints or cv's. There shouldn't be any slop in the front axles or cv's.
-
Well like I said, it rarely pops now, which leads me away from the cv, and the new cvs I bought have the same amount of play in them as the ones I have now, also I totally forgot to mention I have a 3 in rancho suspension lift with 285/75r16 tires
-
That lift also puts extra strain on the ball joints but you usually don't hear them pop unless you hit a bump in the road.
-
Just had all the ball joints/pitman arm, idler arm replaced 2-3 yrs ago, and like I said, there is no play in the tires, I lifted it up and put a bar under the tire and nothing gave, guess I could go get an alignment and see if it holds an alignment
-
Well.... keep driving till it shows itself ha ha

Lol what I have been doing for past 4 days. Well it has to be some with my diff or xfer case cause now when I try to put it in 4wd, says service 4wd. Just gotta figure which one it is.

That's the shafts in the diff that the cv shafts attach to right? Well it finally showed its ungly head, wouldn't go foward in 2wd so put it in 4wd and drove it a 1/2 mile home, its in the rear diff. Axle or ring and pinion.

If you have a g80 it may have broken. Very common issue.
