    Long Long Time ago---
When I first cruised main street with my 50's - 2 door Chevy 6 banger upgraded to a 235 cu inch, full oil pressure motor, 3 speed on the floor----
We would scrape up $1.00 and buy 3 gallons of gas.

It is not the fair amount of profit that the oil companies make, it is the low value of the dollar that makes it expensive. The governmental politicians print money to keep them selves in office, the dollar is based on vote getting, not on any real value that common sense would dictate.

    Just my X inflation=

But it is also the oil companies taking all the risk to get the stuff out of the ground. The government taxes .31 cents a gallon for doing nothing.

By fair I mean reasonable, thanks for the chance to clarify.

We agree, The oil companies make [ I can not remember the exact amount ] make a fair amount % of profit - but
Less than average compared to other types of companies. Profit is a good thing, necessary, with out profit we could not buy gasoline.
Maybe the government should explore for, drill, refine, transport, and sell gasoline at the post office.

Then the price would be afFORDable.
