    4.8 swap for LS3

I want to put an LS3 in my 2000 Silverado 1500. I have a 4.8 vortec right now, and hate it. The LS3 that I am looking at is 6.2L with 430 hp and comparable torque. I'm pretty sure the tranny is a 4L60. Headers and magnaflow are going on as well. The shop I went to wants to charge me 19k for parts and labor. To install a 5k engine with 1.5k exhaust and headers, I feel like that is ridiculous. Especially since the LS3 pretty much drops in with no other new parts required from what I've been told. How can I do this cheaper?

HAHAAA, if you have mechanical know-how, time AND the money, I'm sure the guys here on the site would be able to talk you through it over the phone. There is a wealth of knowledge on here. I'm convinced some of these guys could do it with their eyes closed.
If you're in TX, i'm sure there are a few people who would come over and help you get it in in a weekend. You provide the beer and food of course.

You pay for the parts and beer and theres a few of us in McAlester that can have it done in 1-2 days. Hell, I'll even go halvsies on the steaks.

Have http://www.nelsonperformance.com/ do a tune first and see what he can get out of the 4.8. Then check this out, it is for a 5.3 but worth a read.
