    Building Iron LS1

Since the motor in my truck is questionable at the moment. Has had metal shavings on drain plug magnet last three oil changes. More every time I change the oil. I have decided to build an Iron Block LS1. Most of the parts are here and I decided to start a build thread. Looking at 11:1 CR with 8.8DCR and a quench distance of 0.030. I know that is on the limit of pump gas but I would like to run e85 once it is available in my area.

5.3 Block Bored To Fit Stock LS1 Pistons
Ported Oil Galleys In Back Of Block and Oil Pan
Stock Crank Cut .010 On Rods And Mains Due To Lifter Failure In Donor Motor
    ARP Rod Bolts
    Clevite Bearings
    Recondition Stock LS1 Rods
    New Gm Stock LS1 Pistons
Ported (By Me) Stock 706 Heads
Comp Cams 219/227 .607/.614 Installed 6°Retarded To Keep DCR In Range
    Comp Cams New Revised 918's
    LS7 Lifters
    Comp Cams 7.4 Pushrods
Melling Oil Pump High Volume Thinking Standard Pressure Spring Come With Both Springs
    42# Delphi Injectors
Stock Ported Intake and Throttle Body
    Keeping My EBay Headers
    Running Trailblazer Stall For Now

I am also going to rebuild my transmission while I have my current motor out for the swap. Let me know what you all think of the parts and what power it will make.

The hardest part so far was figuring out the compression with ls1 rotating assembly and 5.3 heads. Then picking out the right cam to get a decent dcr. Now I am just waiting on the machine shop.

Got the block and crank back form machine shop. Now I have started porting my heads. Head still needs to be cartridge rolled a lot in this pic. Hoping the higher gas prices will cause us to get a E85 station soon. If E85 becomes available around here I will put the cam in strait up for a DCR of 9.3.

Put crank and six pistons in Saturday after work. Could not finish due to me launching a piston pin clip across the shop into oblivion. Called and got one from the dealer today and not two hours later one of my coworkers finds mine on a shelf across the shop. My bearing clearances on the crank came out a little on the tight end of specs which is fine by me. However, all the rods were the same but 5&6. They were both .003 so I am going to order some 0.011 bearings to go on them instead of the 0.010's I have. Pistons were further out the hole (-0.014") than I thought they should be but nothing a different head gasket wont fix. Sorry, for all the rambling I will post some pics in a little while.

I have been taking care of my wife most of today. She got her wisdom teeth cut out this morning.

Why did you choose that specific DCR and what did you do to go about calculating it? What will be your final combustion chamber volume?
