    custom trans Xmember

back offshore working, which means i have a LOT of spare time on my hands. I swear, if I could just figure out a way to get my whole truck on this boat, i could finish it in two weeks. LOL.

Just fabbed up this custom crossmember to nestle that 6L80 into its sweet little spot. Access for 3" pipes as you can see....

I think I'll paint it gloss red...

    Drive Shaft Question

A question for anyone out there....

My 6L80 has a triangular flange-type attachment with 3 bolts to hook up a drive shaft. What else will I need for the drive shaft. Correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems like there should be a slip-type yoke that allows the drive shaft to slidel/travel during driving and suspension changes.

Can they add a yoke in-line with the drive shaft?

Is there a different tail housing i need to buy that has a yoke-style connection?

    Help me out....

You can see a pic of my current setup in post #30

did a little more research, looks like i can remove that housing, revealing a beautiful 'ol output shaft....voila. Forgive me for my ignorance, and please by all means correct me if i'm wrong..........................

I guess i'll answer my own post, hoping it helps someone else.

Can't remove that tail housing with "propeller flange". It has seals keeping in the tans fluid.

I refered to the service manuals i purchased for the donor vehicle(2010 Camaro). The drive shaft is two-piece, which means the slip yoke is in the middle. Contacted the yard i bought the engine/trans from, they still had the two-piece drive shaft with all hardware and even includes the support bearing that holds the shaft up in the middle where the slip yoke is. $175 shipped, not too bad, but i'll need to spend more money to adapt it to the 10 bolt GM...

i don't think it was a 2 piece driveshaft since the rear is independent. i'd imaginge you would need a slip yoke driveshaft when swapping out for a straight axle though. i'd have a new driveshaft built and use the stock flange thats on the back of the 6l80e. imo

cool deal man def gonna be a nice truck

i'm stayin away from the 6l80 swaps right now. i was talking to one of the guys at Circle D the other day and he said they've had lots of them coming threw. and the weekest part of the trans is the midshaft. no one makes an aftermarket one. their working with someone up north to start building them one and its gonna cost atleast 1200 or so.

What do the suburbans/ trucks etc. that have the 6L80e have for the output shaft? That's probably gonna be your answer right there.

I haven't been on here for about 6 months. Been busy working and trying to buy a new house.

This is what the truck looks like now. Got some rims off craigslist for $400(score)...

Progress will pick up now that spring is here.
