Thread: LM7 5.3l question

  1. #11
    I was thinking of maybe doing something along these lines;
    5.3l lm7
    CheaTR Cam from Thunder Racing
    springs & push rods
    ls6 p&p oil pump
    LS6 Intake manifold
    pulleys
    and other bolt on's

I want at least 500-550whp on pump gas? Can someone post links of turbos that can do that? But I want to go single turbo with the ability to maybe push
it to 800 w/ a fully built engine.

The one in the link above can do that. probably not 800, but 500-550 easily

If you want 800, I would get a 6.0 bored and stroked to a 408 with all forged internals and put twin 76's on it. Hope you have something better than an 11.5" wide ET street to plant the power!!! I've heard it doesn't work that great!

With a stock LM7 aside from the mods listed , what would you guys think would be the maximum WHP output on race gas with what ever turbo set up...

There's too many variables to be able to answer that. Is it possible to get 700rwhp out of the 5.3? Sure. Quik is making that much with a 4.8. But the tune has to be spot on and the combination of everything, heads, cam, intake..., is also a factor. So it can work. The question is what do you want? A daily driver with 500+ rwhp is pretty easliy done with the 5.3. You don't need race gas either. Get some 60lb injectors and meth if you are going to make big boost and that will work. The methanol will help with intake temps and add the octane that you need.

Thanks for the info. One of the main reasons I want to turbo a LM7 is
because I want to make 500+whp on pump gas and not to be dependent
of anything else like meth and race gas. But I do want to have the ability to push it to its limits with meth and race gas, later down the road if I get tired of 500+whp, but i want to do it on the stock bottom end with no head work done, just the essentials like arp head bolts, springs and etc . I don't know if that makes sense...

Yep and it can be done. Get some 60lb injectors for sure since you won't have the meth to help add fuel. It will depend on your budget too. If you are pinching pennies, then you could use a LS6 cam otherwise I would get a custom cam made. So many things to think about when going turbo....

yea you can do it i plan on runnin 9s and 8s on my s13 ls1 set up and really with boost you don need a major intake just an ls1 so it will clear the 240sx hood will be fine and if you wona make 800hp on a single turbo i would go 80mm atlest. are you gona do a rear mount or top mount im goin rear mount t70. give it some thalt rear mound is a good way to go with that set up due to space under the hood and you can use your stock manifolds its alot cheaper to go that way

If you want that kind of HP, you better run twins or a big turbo. Speaking of big turbos, casey23 has a monster turbo and is making some MONSTER ponies. You may want to talk to him
