And light a match so you can see - it's dangerous working in dim conditions. That's how accidents happen.

Seriously though, i've had good luck starting the engine and then pulling the fuel pump relay and letting the engine die to relieve the fuel line pressure. That way you don't have fuel spraying out of the shrader valve and into the match's flame.
