How does the 4L70E compare to the 4L80E? Is it much better than the 4L60E?

The 70e is an upgraded 60e, one step stronger than the 65e and has upgraded, hardened and heat-treated input and output shafts. The 80e is a whole new world, well old world since they've been around quite a while. The gearing of the 60/65/70e is better for coming out of the hole. The 80e is bigger/stronger internally and will require less parts to handle extreme HP applications. The motor coach 80e has a lower 1st gear planetary set if you can find one otherwise the planetaries are about $600.

Thanks! So, how well will a 4L70E handle mods? I have a 6.0 Vmax with 3.73's and currently just a GMPP CAI and a 91 Octane Nelson Tune with 100% TM removed.

There's no comparison, as far as durability and the ability to handle the punishment, the 80e will far exceed the 60e. However, when I did mine, I did notice it robbed some power.
To be honest, I'd rather have the 60e, but there is no way I'm going through more than one of them. I told myself, if this thing breaks, an 80e is going in, lol.

No issue so far, of course my truck has been down due to other breakages.

Yeah, after rebuilding my 60e five times I had enough. Anyone need a 60e with some really good parts in it and a busted forward sprag?
