GM High Tech Performance did a similar swap in a 6.2 (minus CAI and exhaust) with an LS9 cam. Picked up almost 50hp for about 300 bucks, all stock GM parts. Given the compatability of all our LS motors I don't see why it wouldn't work out for 6.0's, 5.3's and 4.8's alike. If you haven't read it google it, for those of you who have, input please????

A big difference are the rectangle heads and cubic inch (not so much).

I read the article as well, it was geared towards the 6.2 engines more so then the 5.3's 6.0's, it could be done to any of the LS engines, but the 6.2's are going to benefit more from the swap due to cubes and heads. Other combos will vary slightly with the results. The cam can be swapped into older motors as well. All thats needed is matching timing set with he correct gears and a new chain, and vise versa if you are putting 3 bolt cam into single bolt motor.

but just because it's GM parts don't mean you keep your warranty (not that any of us really care about those)

Finally got around to reading this thread in its entirety. I have to say It put a huge grin on my face . When I bought my new to me 2008 Extended cab 2WD I was thinking getting into the mid 14's with bolt ons would be a realistic goal. Now seeing that this truck ran 13.6 with minor mods and taller gears I am getting pumped. I realize my truck is a bit heavier but I believe if my research is correct the LY5 5.3 have a bit better flowing heads and intake? Thanks for the great write up and hope for the future of my new truck!
