Ok so I found a 2004 5.3L engine complete with accessories, wiring harness, and PCM. My truck is a 2001 4.3L.

What will need to be done as far as the anti-theft part of the PCM? I"ve read in a couple of threads that the newer models have anti-theft that needs to be flashed "out" of the PCM.

Will this be an issue putting a '04 motor with anti-theft into a '01 truck with no anti-theft?

Will the wiring harness from the '04 mate up with my '01 truck?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

thats the minimum of your worries...
heres what you may have to consider:
2004 system was fly-by-wire (so the 04 harness and computer are
useless if you are looking to a straight across swap)
so youll need either a 1999-2002 v8 harness (non fly-by-wire) or
a stand-alone harness.
if you use an OE harness youll have to repin your chassis/computer/
fusebox outputs.
fuel lines will need to be adapted or replaced for the v8 options.
and yes tuning for VATS, speedo, and non-emissions compliance

Thank you that was exactly the information I was looking for. I remember reading that somehwere but it was lodged in the back of my brain because I have been researching this for a long time. Looks like I need to keep looking for a 99-02 complete pull out. This guy only wants $700 for the complete '04 and it only has 24k miles on it. Maybe I should just get it because of the price and find a harness.

Either way, thank you for the information. You possibly just saved me a lot of trouble.

Why not buy it, and swap the TB for a cable-driven one? As far as wiring, what's wrong with custom harness? NP can hook that up for ya... not to mention a PCM tuned for a cable-driven powertrain.

Is this not do-able? Am I thinking wishfully? I've heard of people on PT swapping DBW TBs for cable-driven ones w/o issues. What's so different here?
