Hey Guys, I have access to a built Hughes Performance 4L80e (model 25-1) that is mated to a build Lingenfelter LT1 383 with YR Vortec Supercharger with all the electronics that go along with it that came out of a 1995-1996 Impala SS. I would like to transplant (just the transmission) into a 2005 Chevy Tahoe with 5.3 motor. Does anyone know off the top of there head if this transmission will work with my Tahoe? If it matters I have the FP Electronics 4L60E/4L80E Transmission Control Unit too, but I would rather not have to use it if I dont have to. If its easier to just use a different 4L80E to begin with then I'll just sell this whole setup.

UPDATE- In case anyone is ineterest, I called Hughes and they said it was no problem and said I need to use the 4L60e to 4L80e pigtale adapter (part 25-120) which runs about $265.

    Thanks for the thread.

the 80e is a simple swap IMO. $265 for the adapter is a rip-off. NP makes an 60e to 80e adapter if you need one but not exactly sure what all you controller manufacturer has done in their adapter.

i meant any. the mid to late 90s must be half the price of the newer for a reason right?

newer 80e has stronger parts internally but they will all work. Converters vary in design internally. I would recommend a 10" or less diameter custom convertor built to match your engine's flexplate. Late model trans will bolt to all bolt holes. Older transmissions will miss a bolt hole but that is not an issue.

I have a pre 96 unit. If you put the updated parts in, it is just as strong as late model units. The overdrive and lube circuit is supposedly better on the old ones.

i put a 4l80e in my 97 truck, it came with a 60e. my problem is the shift linkage, when i put the truck in park it doesnt move the trans shifter arm far enough forward to hit park. any remedy to this?

You're just gonna have to mess with the adjustments.
Also, be sure you're using the 80e bracket.
