    DBW or DBC?
Looks like there was a firewall grommet on the cable from the DBC V6. Is there a square/rectangle part right before the boot on the opposite end?

Original v6 was DBC (as is my swap). I do not see any empty holes anywhere in the firewall - even put a shop light inside the truck and then looked from the outside looking for light. Didn't see any light. Tried the opposite by placing the light in the engine bay and looking for light inside the cab. Nothing. Went back and looked at pics I took of the v6 and there are only two cables, that I can see, which are used - throttle and cruise (you can see them in the pic below). The two cables present in the pic are accounted for and are currently being used. Maybe this fricking cable I'm looking for didn't even come off of the truck - could have accidentally been tossed in my parts.

    Current project.

It's the shifter linkage, well half of it. The one end goes on tranny. Other is the adjuster that's under the driver door

Yep shifter linkage, shortest one ive ever seen, the fat end goes on the trans the other end runs up through the floor board and up,the steering column to the gear selector, but all the ones ive seen are about 6+feet long.

I too believe its a trans shift cable, but out of a car. I do not believe it was from a truck.
