Thread: Good setup?

  1. #1

    Good setup?

I have a 05 GMC 5.3. I plan on lifting it slightly and putting 35's on it. Performance wise i plan on installing a TS 228R 228/228 .588"/.588" cam, Vette Servo, Trans cooler, LT's, CAI, 4.88 gears and a stall, and of course a Custom tune. is this cam or anything to big or not a good idea? any other mods also would be greatly appreciated. There are a few 4 bangers and mustang GT's around the house that have some mouth and wanna smoke that a** from a litte stoplight to stoplight heads up

Good luck going fast in a lifted truck without boost or spray...those mods would rip in a stock height or lowered truck but those 35's are gonna kill you.

If your planning on racing cars i'd do what trav said, generally a truck needs 100 more horses than a car to outrun it, because of wieght and aerodynamics, you add more rotating mass with those tires and youll know what its like to own a hemi truck. If you wanna haul ass in a big lifted truck buy a diesel.

I have to agree, go diesel for a fast lifted truck, torque is a lot more plentiful in the diesel world!

If you tell us more about your truck and what you plan on doing with it that would help us to provide better recommendations. What engine does it have? Is it a regular cab, crew cab, 4wd? Do you plan on towing with it? How much weight would/do you tow?

Everything mentioned so far is true. However, if you want/need a lifted truck and would also like to do some performance mods to make it more powerful and faster then go for it! Just know that there is a trade off when you put big tires on it.

That all sounds good to me! That cam is pretty big though. For a heavy truck with heavy tires i think a smaller cam that would provide more low end power would be better. Something in the 21x/21x range, maybe a TR220 but no bigger.

In all honesty if I were going to build a lifted gas truck that I wanted to run cars with I would swap in a 6.0/80E and throw a 2300 Maggie on top of it. Add some supporting mods like LT's, full exhaust, maybe a small boost cam, and burn rubber like crazy.

How fast do you want to run?

You can also bet on those 35's making you about .5 slower than a set of mild tread 30" tires.
Big slow mud truck with a TUNE!!!!!!

Its a Crew cab 4WD with the LM7 5.3. The 35's i can do without them but i am adding the 22 incch TB SS rims. I dont need 10 sec truck but i would like for it to move. Who doesn't
