crap breaks no matter how much you spend or how much power youre making, everyone has different issues and are usually solved different then the last guy. i was told 3 years ago "that cam is to big for a 5.3" been running it the whole time, 13.1 on motor mail order tune 341rwhp with a cam and mail order tune literally, also heard "a 200 shot is to much for stock internalls on a 5.3" 3 years later still driving it and never had an A/F gauge, just saying for every situation doesnt mean another guy will have the same problem or resolution, btw now there are guys running alot bigger cams than mine, running more nitrous/boost and making a helluva lot more power than i am, stop comparing one guys ride to anothers.

Your cam is weak sauce G.

I agree, no matter what other people do, each situation is different and will be solved differently. The exact same issues wont be had with any set up, even if they are the exact same.

I ran into the same problem with my setup at first, I went with a seven layer gasket and swaped head studs to the arp 2000 torqued to 95 and the problem went away.

    Quik,
I understand you have a lot of experience and knowledge with these motors and i have been grateful for that. Yet, you gave complete disregard to the fact that there are more factors that can cause heads to lift, i.e., the flatness of the block and heads. Case in point, you would rather sound like an arrogant ass than actually help someone with an issue.
wtf r u talking about he was trying to help with his first post he gave some very useful info! so if he is arrogant its because he knows HIS STOP TRYING TO PUT HIM ON THE SPOT LIKE THE REST OF THE NAY SAYERS. try building something similar to what he has done in the past few years i doubt ull come anywhere near 1/3 of the power he has made lol

Dam dude, chill out. I merely pointed out something of basic observation. I have nothing against Quik. In fact, I have a great deal of respect for him. I know he knows his stuff which is why i said he knows his stuff in the quote you referenced Thought this was dead anyway.

    No hard feelings Quik.

I think he made an excellent point and made it clearly. Don't blame the heads for what is going on underneath them. Heads pushing water is the symptom and not the problem, much like breaking a ring land on a #7 piston is the symptom and not the problem. Replace the piston and change nothing else and you will have the same problem again, and very soon. Different heads or bigger studs are just a band aid for the real problem.

I love seeing guys making big power on cheap stock hardware, it was a big part of what got me back interested in hot rodding vehicles again. From the coil packs down my motor would probably be worth less than $200 at a salvage yard
