yeah it adds up. But I think the gen 3 is a better starting point. Good luck with the swap. Most of us here have ls.
I wouldn't mind doing a LS swap but the money is the key. Iam trying to do this CHEAP..... an fast cuz the ole v6 is getting tired 230,000+ miles an I can't stop driving it like I do my dirt car lol now with the intake gasket leaking an it has a miss iam not putting any money in it.yeah it adds up. its not going to be cheap. But if you do decide to go LS. Get a complete pullout. Like a 6.0 with a 4l80e attached to it. you can find them sometimes for $1k-2k$ depending on the year and mileage. Then you will need motor mounts, harness, possibly a driveshaft. But dont make the mistake I did and buy an incomplete short block. Bolts can go for $4-$12 a piece. And there are a lot of bolts. Make sure motor is in good shape. I had to have mine torn down because the cam bearing were shot. To get it done with a stock motor and tranny, doing it yourself, look at spending about $3k-$4k.
yeah I got a guy next door to my shop that has a 5.3 but it is buckets lol and the cheapest I can find a motor around me is $2500+ with trans then I got to buy all the other stuff so doing that cheap is out the window lol
I think I can build the 98 vortec to put out 450hp an that's all iam really looking for. But don't get me wrong, if I had a gen3 fall in lap real cheap I would go that way.
you can find 4.8 and 5.3 for cheap. Just a thought.
