    Exclamation 5.3l Swap to a LQ4 Vs LQ9 6.0L

What motor is the better one to go with? I know the LQ9 is like in a SS Silverado and the LQ4 you can find in 2500 seires trucks or even in vans!!!
I always here the LQ9 is better, but it goes for alot more then the LQ4! Whats the difference? I know the LQ4 is "like" the LS2 but its an IRON block and the ls2 is not iron block, has same or just about the same as the LS2! So which is the better route to go here... since an LS2 cost an arm and leg!!!

I currently have an 5.3l in my 99 GMC Ext Cab lowered 3/5 drop bell tech with 22's. All stock but the 77 series Intake from K&N. I was planning on putting an LS1 cam and a Wilson Fast 92mm Intake. but Seems that its better to go to the 6.0l. Any in put would help to know which way to go! Plus keep my 4L60E and build it that has 116k i hear its better to go this route because it has better gear ratios than the 80E. And should i re build my rear end so i dont have a one wheel wonder!!!

around how much power should i be around, if i do the cam swap, the fast 92 intake, and 92 tb, shorty headers , new cats, super 44, intake airraid or something, 8.5 wires, and some good set of plugs... also i will be taking the truck for a base dyno run, and then have it dyno tuned to get the most out of it, if i mod my 5.3l

I would do a cam, long tube headers, Off road Y pipe, full bolt ons (intake, pulleys...), L92 heads and intake and the most important thing...CUSTOM TUNE!

    Makes good numbers!

i would do the long tube headers but dont know anyone that would weld them on so am stuck with going to a shop and they say its a no no , remember am in CALI!!! so they wont put it on. since they arent legal lol... like we all care..... lol... i will do a custom o2 wide band custom dyno tune. i dont know if i really want to go with a different cam, because if i go that much into it then i think i should just swap the motor to the LQ4 for all the money that i be spending..

I thought you were talking about modding the 6.0. For the 5.3, sucks about the Cali rules and LT's..., I would do CAI, exhaust (Magnaflow), pulleys, efans and a posi. Wires and plugs aren't necessary since the stockers do well. Same with the intake. Your 60e may end up being a weak link. If you are going to start making serious power, I would consider the 80e swap.

if you've never installed a rear end & don't even have the tools, i'd definitely recommend having a shop do it
them black housings should look great on your truck - we need pics when they're installed!
00 FRC - just top end, exhaust, and a hot-air intake
    99 Sierra - 5.3 / 5spd

I am going to start taking pic's of the truck now so i can compare them to my before and after folder. am changing all lights to Oracle HID Xenon for my highs and lows, and gettting LED Oracle bulbs for the fog lights, tail light, turn signal day time runing light lic plate bulbs and all inteiror bulbs to the Oracle LED ones! i can wait. and the Halo Oracle kit on my stock denali projectors and having them painted black not tinted or smoked, but painted from inside the housing! Doing it the first time, no cheap stuff going no here!

As far as the tranny am going to go ahead and start looking for the 80E and dich my 60E, and am going to get the Detriot Locker TRueTac Posi and 4.10 pinon gears set in sept. cant wait!

And am not going to go with Nelson Tunning PCM, am going to get a Dyno Tune, which is better, and i would go with Nelson but dont live near them to do a Dyno Tune!, Ill be goin next week to do a Base Dyno Run, to see what i have to work with. Question, should i take off my 22's and do the dyno run on my stocks? am going to be runnin my 22's all the time and maybe switch them between some stock 20's of a sierra later during winter time. the dyno run next week will run my 100 bucks, not bad to know what i have to work with,,,, 120hp -180hp at the wheels maybe?am doing to take off my K&N 77 seris intake too.

the shop is going to charge me around 500 to do the dyno tune. i am going to a 91 octane tune. SO i hope i get good numbers on my lil 5.3l, and am going to sell my LS1 Cam and just look for the LS6 since its more aggressive...
AM going to do the tune after the tanny swap and axle upgrade, and after all mods are on the truck.... cam, intake , tb ported, intake manifold ls6 maybe, new coil packs, pulleys, intake,, headers, super 44..... ill make sure to keep you all posted on the base dyno pull and after the tune dyno pull! ill post more pic later of the truck in its current state
99' Ext Cab 5.3l Soon to be sleeper!!!

Not sure of who you are using for a dyno tune and if they are a reputable tuner, you may be ok. Nelson does mail order tunes and is typically right on with tuners who do live tunes. Plus they are cheaper and give free re-tunes for life! I had a mail order tune from him for the 1st year that I had my STS system with 8 psi and had absolutely zero issues. He's good......

A base line run with stock wheels should put you in the 220ish range at the wheels. Good call on the LS6 cam and 80e. Stick with the stock truck intake since it flows better and gives you more low end torque.

Definitely have a REPUTABLE shop install your posi and ring/pinion. It's worth the money to have it set up right.
