Objective Rams and Balad. i take it you're wanting to do all of this when you get back? where you from? we could probably get you hooked up with a really good shop "close" to where you're based. what are you going to using the truck for? that will help us answer most of your questions. most of the guys on here are more than willing to help with their knowledge and even a little labor in most cases.

Fort Riley KS, Coming home in about a Month for R&R and for good close to first of the year. Its my everyday driver. The 4.3 is getting about 15 mpg and 17 highway. I have done cosmetic and now its time to give the truck some balls. I want a strong motor 250 to 300 horses. and try to maintain 15 to 20 mpg.

    Story first:
when i rolled into Balad the dust was still settling from out "sisters" in the Air Force and i swear i was probably the 4th-5th HMMWV to roll in there. i've heard it's not too bad of a gig now.

    Advice:
Get a low mileage 5.3 with a mild cam, good intake and exhaust. your 5 speed should work fine behind it as long as you beef up the clutch. you could always wait for a good deal on a LS1/6 speed combo and have everything done for under 4g's. are you going to do a lot of research and do it yourself at the hobby shop or going to have someone do the swap for you?

I plan on taking leave and I get like 30 days and hopefully I will have everything. I work for a maintenance company so mechs are easy to come by but this kind of work is out of the norm so a lot of research and time to prepare is key. LS1 and 6 speed is my best bet huh. How hard is that swap and has anyone done it already, looking for some experience on this on don't know what to expect.
