no i tried my dads battery and his is full of juice... im just not quite sure... ive tried the factory 4.3 starter solenoid wire... nothing... then i also spliced the 5.3 solenoid wire into the 4.3 solenoid wire under the fuse center and still nothing... i dont get it at all... i dont know if maybe i have a bad ground or whats going on. i bought the starter for 50$ at a salvage yard so maybe its junk? all my guages come on on the dash but the gas guage just MAXES right out LOL. im just not quite sure. my old mans going to look at it with me in the morning... so we shall see.

make sure you have grounds to the engine block, the frame and the body. Test the starter outside the truck. Take it to a part store for testing or just bench test it with a battery, two battery leads and the starter. Run a jumper to fire the solenoid from the positive lead to the solenoid and see that it spins.

well heres an update my dad put a wrench across the solenoid of the starter and it fired right up SOUNDS SICK! at 7 am this morning and woke my ass up lol. i was pumped so the starter is good but when i turn my key on in the dash the volts only go to a little above 9 but the batter is a good battery so i dont know if im losing power somewhere or whats going on im going to check all my grounds this morning. i would really love to get this figured out!

Is the starter solenoid wire hooked up as original or did you splice it into the nelson harness? If in the Nelson harness, did you hook the power wire for the relay directly to a non-switched 12v source with a wire as large as the wire coming off the relay?

i hooked up the 4.3 starter solenoid wire to the 5.3 starter. that shouldnt be an issue right because its just to complete the circut so it will crank over? i used a test light and the red wire going into the starter relay on the fuse center is a 12v constant... the small pink wire that goes to the starter relay only has power when the ignition is being cranked. there is a small black wire which i assume is a ground? and then the big purple wire... should there be 12v going to the purple wire at any point and time? i guess im just kind of confused because nothing has really changed with the starter and it worked fine before... any ideas?

ALSO my truck is MANUAL and would a clutch position sensor have anything to do with my problem???? the plug going to the clutch is hooked up. just figured id mention it.

well heres the issue my dad was just helping me out with his volt meter... under the fuse block where the wires go into the starter relay there is a red 12 v. constant which does read the 12v. there is the pink and black wire which reads 12v when the ignition is on. there is the thick purple wire which we cant get any signal from and there is a small black wire but its not a ground do you know where this wire goes? it has power to it... i have the factory 4.3 starter solenoid wire hooked up...should i change this to the 5.3 wire and cut the 4.3 on off? is that how it would work or can i just T into the original at the fuse block?

my dad also got a piece of wire and put it to the positive on the battery and then touched it to the part of the purple wire i stripped under the fuse block and it cranks the starter so there has to be something missing in between. i cleaned all the grounds yesterday and the battery was reading roughly 12-13 volts on my guages. is there anything else that will prevent this from working that i just dont know about?

you are pressing the clutch pedal down while trying to start it right? There should be a relay for the starter circuit in your system somewhere.

Kyle, You should have a black ground wire going to the starter relay, the opposite side should have a purple wire going to the CPP switch (Clutch pedal position), a purple wire to the starter solenoid, and a red wire on the opposite side constant 12 volt. The purple wire coming off of the CPP goes to the fuse block (crank fuse 8 - 10a) which loops to a yellow wire that goes to the ignition switch.
