    New newb from PA

Hello all, my name is Mike I'm 36, and I do most everything(fab/mechanical) on my truck, with some help from my buddies.

Was checking the net for a good site dealing with GM trucks, and this one was on the top of the list.

Project that I'm working on is doing a solid axle swap on my 1988 fslb 350TBI, as well as an engine swap. I have access to a 1998 350 Vortec that I would like to dump in the truck.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    mike

    Hello & Welcome

It's too early for me to say anything that makes any sense.

Welcome to LS1truck Mike! Thanks for joining! That L31 motor would be fine for your swap, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you sell the motor and get your hands on a good, low mileage LSX motor. I think a 5.3L would suit you fine, but a 6.0L would be better. I say this because the LS motors have a bigger following for aftermarket parts, are easier to work on, and can produce more reliable power than the old L31 (350 c.i.) motor can. I understand that it would be easier to swap it since you already have the motor in your possession and that you are probably more familiar with the 350 than a 323 or 364, but you will get more out of your swap if you use a 5.3L ot 6.0L...
