indexing plugs?

anyone ever tried this?
i was talkin to an old racer the other day and he said that indexing plugs was good for about 5-10hp..just wondering if anyone has tried this and had any results

It probably depends on the design of the motor as to how much power it's worth. But yes, it works (a little). It's a very old trick.

it works on any OHV motor. I’ve done it to one gen 1 SBC and one b18 integra and both gained a little power (SBC gained more +4 cylinders) if you have time to kill I say go for it, summit sells the spacers for the spark plugs and there under 20$ if memory serves.

Not sure I would waste time doing it. These engines are a diff breed.. The timing in the pcm is constantly adjusting, much more then any distrib engine would. So it is getting optimum spark and timing out of whats there..

it still benefical, it doesnt matter what type of motor it is. indexing the plug helps out reguardless since its still a combustion chamber. aligning the electrode so it faces the back of the exhaust valve on every cylinder will allow you to idle smoother and have better resonse. Doing this along with triming the strap is an old trick that still used in most of your big dawgs setups

I have indexed a lot of plugs before and have never used spacers. I just mark the ceramic with a Sharpe to know where the strap is pointed and try plugs until one lines up. Usually eight plugs will line up pretty well if you just take you time trying them. Reason this works is the threads don't start in the same clock position on every plug.
