    Careful under your truck...

    So Sunday afternoon after hanging out with a few old Saab buddies, I got a call from a good friend, and near neighbor. His roomate, also a good friend, was doing new CV's on the front end of his truck. It was setup in the driveway, packed dirt, with a jack stand under both pass and driver side frame rails, a couple 1'x1' peices of 3/4" plywood under the jack stands, the rear wheels were chocked.

    Long story short, he reefed on one of the CV's or something, and the jack stand on his side gave out.

    His face/head was caught between the dirt driveway and the lower a-arm on the truck (wheels off...).

    I headed straight over to help out, luckily one of his other roomates, whose a big boy to say the least, lifted the truck off of him while the other - who called me, pulled him out.

    Doctors said he broke every bone in his face, and fractured his skull. Fortunatly there is no brain damage, but he is going to need a good ammount of reconstructive surgery.

    It obviously wasnt an appropriate time for them, so no I dont have pics.

    Amen to that SC. We all hope he gets well and recovers quickly.

    Just imagine if someone like Ricky was there to help...he couldn't have lifted the truck..and he'd be screwed. Now I know why Danny has always used two sets of jackstands when doing a tranny swap--or anything under the truck. When you go to break loose the bellhousing from the block, we wiggle it pretty damn good to break it away from the keyways...probably in the same fashion as what he did when messing with the CVs...

    Thanks guys, Ill pass it along.

    It was really an eye opener...I mean obviously everyone would prefer to work under a lift, but few of us have that luxury. Certainly something Ill keep in mind the next time Im under my truck.

    Wow, and I thought jackstands were the safe way to go. Any idea what caused it to collapse?

    The only thing I can really think of is if the weight was allready a bit off center on the jack stand, and when he reefed on the CV it moved the truck over just far enough to cause the stand to tip and give out...

    That is terrible news! I've had that happen before but not while I was under the vehicle. I've also seen trucks fall off of lifts as well. Hope he gets better soon. Be careful out there guys!

    DB's lift gave out at the pulley. Scary to think what could have happened.
