If anyone needs to replace the shift cables on thier trucks its a 2 pc cable. I'll put the part # at the bottom of the post.

Anyone know how to adjust these cables once installed on the truck?

I followed the instructions I found online on how to disconnect the cable both from the tranmission (making sure that the transmission is in "mechanical park" on the trans. itself) & from the 2nd half of the cable just below the drivers side floorboard.

I installed the 1st cable between the transmission & the floorboard of the truck. The other cable from the shifter to the bottom of the truck under the drivers seat is still in great shape.

The part that broke is on the 1st cable looks like a large SEALED D-cell battery thats connected to a metal bracket alongside the transmission with 2 plastic tabs and a c-clip holding it in place.

I installed the 1st cable with no problems but now have the issue of having to jiggle the shift lever in the cab to find Park. That and the fact that I cannot get it to go into 1st gear is what is getting me perplexed.

You would think that there is an adjustment nut/screw on the cable but there isn't. At least I have not been able to find it.

Driving the truck it feels like its in the right gear but not sure if the torque converter and all are locking up properly. Been told that if the cable is slightly out of adjustment this can cause problems with the trans.

Suggestions on how to adjust the cable would be appreciated as I'm at a loss on this one.

Part # for the cables is GM # 12477640. My understanding its for model years 99-07classic, 4x4 extended cab models. PLEASE check to make sure it fits your truck.
