Thread: How much to install cam and springs?

    Hey guys,

    I was wondering how much it generally cost to have a cam, springs and rods installed. I have quotes from $1500 to $3000 and anywhere from two to ten days.

    I had a quote this week for $700, then when I called back to schedule the appointment the guy told me he misunderstood and the $700 was just for the springs.

    If it matters, I live in the San Diego, CA area.

    I would do it yourself and save some cheese. Will they let your or are you supplying the parts? If not there is going to be a huge markup on the parts. Labor also is so incorect if you look at a labor guide. Witch tells me they may not have alot of exp with these engines and are charging for 9hrs of labor. Either way its going to cost abit, They have to pay there techs to do it and make money at the same time. I hope you told the guy that quoted you $3000 to go himself.

    Go work on the guy that quoted you $1500 everything is negotiable before and after the work

    Cam, push rods, and springs installed with prepaid parts I was quoted around $800..... Central Texas

    I paid something like $750 for a custom grind cam, springs and push rods. So parts and labor would be around $1500.

    I hope when you say rods you are saying push rods for the rockers???

    I ended up installing it myself and enjoyed the time doing it. I needed the neighbor kid to help torque down the crank pulley bolt

    For $3000 I'll fly out to Cali and do it for you...I could still afford to buy the tools once there and pay for the plane ticket. Damn...Go fish around at SilveradoSS.com A couple of us are gonna get together next weekend and do a cam and some tunes, maybe a radix install (of course this is in Ohio). I'm not making fun, it just pisses me off when someone tries to rip you off...they obviously didn't want your business.

    Here in the RGV there charging from $250-300 to install the cam and springs.

    Yes, I already have the cam (Comp 212/218 558/563 115lsa) Comp 918 springs and longer pushrods.

    These quotes were for labor only. Unfortunately the lowest quote so far is at a shop in Las Vegas, NV. I didn't really want to drive out there for two to three days. Most places are saying one whole day for the spring and another whole day for the cam. Shop rates around here seem to be in the $75-100/hr range.

    The quote for $3000 was at a dealer just outside of town. The in-town dealer said they wouldn't even do it.

    I don't really have the knowledge, space, or tools to do the swap myself. Anyone in the San Diego area have a recommendation for a shop?

    Just make sure it's a reputable shop and they have done them before.
    And before the question is asked, you don't have to remove the intake manifold, lol.

    Average is $500 around here.

    It seems that all of the shops use the same software to quote prices. The software says 18 hours to R/R just the cam.

    I just pulled this up on Alldata, it shows 11.8 hr, at an average of $75/hr, it's still under $900.
    We can do a cam swap in under 3hrs, they must be slow.

    Everyone should have a TRT or NP in their area. I guess we're just lucky!
