    My dealings with Pat G

Sent him the sheet last night, wanted a cam for a 5.3 with .20 milled 243's. In front of a standard and eventually an 80e with a 3500ish converter. Got back to me this afternoon first with a 216/220 .564 on a 112, Comp XE lobes. Not what I was after, I wrote on the sheet I wanted a mean idling mid-to-high end that will play nice with a small shot (100-150ish). Emailed him back mentioning these points and he got back to me with new specs within the hour, honestly admitted he seen Silverado 5.3 and glanced over the rest of the form. Anyway new specs are 222/226 .598 on a 111+2 on these new EPS lobes. I realize it's not a motor that requires a whole lot of thought cam-wise but it's nice to have something that I know is gonna work. Anyway, as much as the first spec pissed me off the way he got back to me so damn fast made up for it. I'm happy.

EDIT: Just noticed this was post 4000 hooray

I was planning on getting a Pat G cam, then I found a deal on a TR220. It's times like these I wish I would have called him first. Sounds like a great cam for your needs. You can buy it then I'll trade you my 220. haha Can't wait to see what kind of numbers this put's up.

I told you with these new lobe profiles available, you can get away with a little more lift on a cam without that much duration. Yay me!

Pat g spec'd my cam. He was very quick and answered all my stupid questions...My cam works great...However...I would order the cam from a different company than eps...It's pretty much a guaranteed 3 week wait whether he tells you he will put you on the speedy list or not...Had an awesome experience with pat g...geoff at eps really tried my patience...

    Also...

I know you already spent your $25 for the specs, but, try a couple different other companies and see what they have to say. Cammotion is very helpful, isky, futural(who uses cammotion). I ordered my next cam from cammotion and gave pretty much the same info that I gave Pat G and got a completely different looking spec sheet from them.

I'm not in a rush to get the thing so waiting on EPS isn't a big deal (unless deadlines keep getting extended, that's just a piss off), but yeah I never really thought about getting a few more opinions (not saying this guy is god, his specs just came close to what I was thinking) but I probably should.

From the way my truck responded, he probably hit the nail on the head with the came he spec'd me...However, I'm always looking for more. Did alot of research and Cam Motion is mentioned over and over in the really fast LSx community. The cam they spec'd me is 2* bigger on the intake than my current cam and 8* bigger on the exhaust, which is what I had originally figured I would be getting from Pat G. We'll see how it works.

Also, if you have any engine builders locally, talk to them. They may just specialize in the old school stuff, but still know how valve events and everything else work. I spoke with a local here when I was searching and the specs he came up with for me are very close to the specs I got from cam motion.

Put it thru desktop dyno just for fun on a otherwise stock 5.3, spat this out. Hoping my heads and a 90mm intake will help it out up top, but if it performs like that I'll be happy.
