thanks for the info allen,we were thinking why mod the ssr if its 6050lbs lol.
pm sent,and we put the 4l60. the truck had the 700r so the same driveshaft was used,the crossmember was modified. truck started up today.

x2 on what lechez71 said, it has to be a 1987 fuel injection tank, we are doing one right now almost finished with a 5.3L,,,nice truck.
I also thought they were lighter but this SSR is the heavy super loaded automatic,staggered wheels, convertible hard top,and sound proof bed with top.The left door identification sticker says...
my brothers 05 ssr weighs 6050 out the dealer.

The 2000 chevy my dad bought from your friend Tres in Pearsall has 379,000 miles. 4.8 with 4l60 and the 373 gears(dif was rebuilt) and still going.

^^^^^^^the L92 heads alone are worth about 500.00 plus motor, i thought mine was cheap {no heads}so i bought it just for parts.
a PI or Circle D 3200-3400 triple disk stall and some 410 oem gears
I would just buy a short block rotating assembly from Erik at HKE in Houston Tx.,,,,
They can make you an economy build forged motor or stroker, an eagle crank build, or the callies crank billet...

thats what i run on my xcab 6.0 and was very street friendly,on a 4.8 it will be a trailor queen,imo.
whatever gear ratio you decide just make sure its the oem gear for the street so you wont have the gear cry, and about the locker my xcab crunched the aubern locker so i got the upgraded pro series...
