Can anyone shed some light on what this cam is? Numbers on the end are: 0967 1 22 3074. Thanks!

Its the stock one I pulled out of the truck, sorry forgot to mention that. I'm trying to verify if it is truly a 5.3 before I do anything more to it. Trying to do this without pulling the heads or oil pan to see the internals haha.

Pull the plug, stick something in the hole, see if you can feel the dish in the piston. It is a very pronounced bump, bout 3/4" of an inch around the outside of the piston.

I'm going to try and find a bore scope I can borrow, I tried pulling a plug and investigating around the cylinder with a good sized zip tie, but couldn't tell anything definitive with it.

Bend a metal coat hanger into a tight u on one end and feel around with that. Find the cylinder wall, move down towards the top of the piston, then to the center of the piston. You should be able to feel it drop into the dish. I don't think a zip tie would be stiff enough to feel it.

My dad has a sweet toy from Rigid. It is a camera with a flexable arm that includes an LED light and everything you could totally see the inside of the cylinder. You can get them at Home Depot. Do a short term free rental (Buy it use it return it)

I like this idea! May have to try it out tomorrow...

And yeah, the zip tie was a little too limp to work effectively.
