It's hard to believe i was driving my 98Z years ago and the LS1 is still around. What a great engine!!

It's been around for about 8years and it's still kicking ass.

And now their putting it in the next gen vette and gto. that's gotta say something.

was there any other chevy v8's that were this great and lasted this long. Rare ones don't count like the L88 vette back in the day with 550+horse.

I wonder how long they are going to keep this engine, i've heard plans for a electronic valve type engine coming out in the vette someday.

very good design...sharing it in the trucks and every vehicle they make nowadays helps make it a popular motor.

were you refering to displacement on demand in the newer vette (the electronic valve thing) ??

well the POD, power on demand, is when they shut off two cylinders to gain milage. the valve thing i was talking about is gm is going to control the valves with electronic soleniods instead of a cam, that means infinite timing,

I bet we'll be able to retrofit our engines for the newer design. They will probally sell a kit.

The small block 350 came in camaros for a LONG time. By this I mean, the LT1 was a 350, the TPI's were 350's and so on. But they were all 350's.

Yes, the 346 (its not really a 350 ) has been around for a very long time, but the LS1 is different. Yes, its a 350, but has new technology incorped into it. The best pushrod motor built, yet.

The prevoius SBC design was from the 50's I am sure the LS1 will be around while. Someday I hope to be able to upgrade to an infinite timing system also. Imagine the increase in power and efficiency.

I thought is has on been in "official" production since the 97 Vette. ANyway, I bet it will be around for 10+ years to come. It's just to damn good.
