    true also has reinforced ribs that are thicker and heavier, i met someone at the track last nice that actually did the swap, he said he pulled the stepside cause it was heavier, stepside having more reinforced weight cause of the fiberglass side panels, was told when he put the stepside on it sat lower on his drop, so he went back to the fleetside.. go figure just what i was told!! until these are actually weighed out, i'll decide on other factors of weight reduction!

    the 88-98 sportside beds had fiberglass bedsides, and the 99 up sportside beds were made of ABS plastic.

    abs plastic being heavier? i witnessed the trussets under the shortbed and they are wider and thicker..

    I don't know what the weight difference is, I just know that 9 out of 10 times if you don't lift the sportside bed from the inner hooks you will more than likely break the plastic bedsides. We always use a lift to remove them and put em back on.

    Plastic is plastic and considering the material and the smaller size I'd have to guess a gay-side is at least 100 pounds lighter but I've been wrong more times than I can count...

    i found a stepside close to me gonna figure out how i can weigh it. then weigh mine!! the only fact i have is what the guy told me. when he put the stepside on his truck it sat lower, when he had the fleetside on it sat higher!!! go figure i dont know!!

    thanks quik, yeah gonna measure the belt like mentioned this evening, as for weight, yep got plans this weekend, promised the wife i wouldnt touch the truck wednesday or thursday but yesterday i was looking, theres quite a bit that can come off if one was to look around good enough.


    i have rubber flooring, no carpet, but the insulation underneath is coming out also ...
