Thread: Traction and Tires

1. #1
I got a few traction questions.
Will a 15" wheel fit on an 01 with disk brakes?
You think I can get noticable grip improvements upgrading my tires from a 255 to a 285 width?
Also, I was going to fab up some CalTrac bars. For anybody that owns CalTracs, it doesn’t even look like there is enough room for the 2 plates on either side of the Front of the Leaf Spring. Am I missing something?
thanks for the help

It all depends on the inside dia. of the wheel compared to the caliper housing/bracket. I tried putting 16" on mine and it rubbed the caliper bracket.

You will get a noticeable improvement going to 285s, but may still have some traction problems...

Go to 305's.

Caltracs will fit. You have to take out the factory bushing & steel sleeve and use the new ones with the kit.
Gone, but not forgotten!

295-45-20 is about 30.5 and lighter than the 305 look at tire rack in the specs side.

or this link if it works

I could be wrong but I doubt you'll find (or want) 305s to fit on a stock 16" rim. Stock rims are like what.....7-7.5" wide? I've got 285s and the minimum wheel width is 8"; 8.5 recommended.
