Ah I see. What about fuel economy? Does it seem any better than it would be if there was a 4L60/80E underneath?

I wanted to do this as well, but was told that even if I can get a good deal on the tranny, im still going to spend mucho money to get it to work. Im sure on the 6.0s like mine you would gain about 2mpg.
Any new updates on integrating the transmission into older vehicles? Or is it still basically down to using a Gen IV engine and computer?
The knowledge base is already established to retrofit these to any MPFI OHV V8 motor, including Gen III/II/I (TPI)...the issue is finding someone willing to spend the money to do it and get the custom parts made. Fuel economy is a marginal gain. It along with the transmissions performance and overall reliability is a matter of tuning. From the factory they are tuned for fuel economy. Most tuners don't understand the inner workings of the 6L80/90's let alone the electronics, so when they apply 4L70/80 techniques to it...6L's go boom and then get a bad reputation.
I've advised everyone with this basic thought. If you already have big power (over 500RWHP) and want SIMPLE & reliable..go built 4L80/85. If you want to go even faster with that power go BUILT 6L90. If you have under 500 WHP and want to go faster, just build your 4L70 find a good tuner and go 6L90.
The whole benefit of the 6L80/90 is that you can go faster with a simple transmission swap without changing converters. You also get unmatched off the line, rockcrawling, heavy towing, and low end to mid range torque multiplication. It is through the gear torque manipulation in heavy towing that you will find an improvement in fuel economy. Just everyday, non-towing driving will not yield a significant increase in fuel economy.
Nelson Performance did my 6l90e swap in my 08' rcsb silverado behind my cammed 6.0 along with 4.56 gears and runs badass with no issues! :D

I have an LS3/6L80e out of a wrecked 2010 Camaro, no cam, no stall, just tuned. My truck(81 c10) will be a DD (only when I'm home from offshore) that sees the strip on occasion. It's halfway done, rolling chassis, starting wiring harness now. Can anyone recommend an optimal gear ratio for the rear end with my setup? I have 3.73 posi now, 29.5" tires...thx
3.73's are fine with that tire size. I have 29.70" and 4.10 in the SS and 3.24 in the 'RS'
As was already stated, probably the gas cap issue.
I wont worry about using a lower octane of gas -- I use anything from 87-94 depending on how generous I feel at the pump that day and have had no problems including heavy towing, in high heat, with 87.
