Just do some reading. Allen Nelson at Nelsonperformance.com can tune your computer. That is the very first mod you should do. Best bang for the buck, I promise. Do some reading and decide how much money you want to spend read a lot on this sight and you will figure out what makes you go fast and sound good.

hahaha i was going to stay stay away from handheld programmers... but o well...
cold air intake, long tube headers, e-fans, underdrive pulleys, cam and springs if you want to go that route, transmission servos and shift kit are popular with people, and honestly a custom tune instead of the hypertech......
sounds like you have a real nice truck!! post up some pics!!
welcome aboard stick around and post often!!
edit: yep forgot to say stall... kind of like a cam, servos and shift kit, you can go deeper that route which shouldnt be too hard to do yourself in thoery
CAN'T GET PICS TO POST
the nelson tune should run you just about the same amount as the hypertech if you can get yoru money back... maybe an extra $50, but well worth it... its not a general tune like the HPT its custom to your truck and comes with upgrades... so you change someting onyour truck and he can change your tune

upload whatever picture you have to photobucket or whatever site you use to host pictures.... the click and copy the line underneath the picture that has [img] tags around it and paste it into the text box... then the pics should show up

ANYBODY HAD GIBSON SUPER TRUCK EXAUST. THINK ABOUT TILL I CAN GET LONG TUBE HEADERS AND TRUE DUALS WITH X-PIPE
Im alittle confused here, everyone seems to advice the first thing you should do to a truck for performance is tune it. now either im stupid or, ok im stupid but, shouldnt you try to get air to flow as well as possible with an intake and exhaust, headers if you choose to go that route before tuning? I mean if you wanna bypass it all and just do a speed density tune then you shouldnt have to worry about the intake and exhaust, is that what nelson is doing, a speed density tune?

well with the nelson tune, from what i have gathered from being on here, say you take a stock truck and tune it... youll get more power and responce basically..... as your modification list grows, you are able to re-tune it to grow with your list... so if you start off as a SD tune then you move to a more custom tune working with each of the mods you have performed...... thats the way i see it
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Adam Simmons @ Jan 18 2007, 03:05 PM) [snapback]80256[/snapback]</div>You are right but if you add a high flow air filter fairly quick and high flow exhaust w/o headers and then tune with a custom tune the gain will be that much more. This is coming from a low cost modder. Total cost less than 600.00 look at sigQuote:

Welcome YellowZ71 I think you will find what you are looking for here. :hshake:
^^^ +1
this way youll have some done and be able to work off that
I think the SD tunes are geared a little more towards the F/I applications if im not mistaken.
I was just curious, I've been dealing with ARD here in houston and im just used to the way that they do things, I did not mean any disrespect in any way.
Welcome New comer, I've been here for less that 24 hours and have gotten a ton of help with my swap, the guys here have tons of knowledge to share and help
Most people do the basic intake/cat back first. But you won't realize the full potential of either without a tune to account for them. The factory computer can only adjust so much within it's stock configuration.
I would develop a future goal first (do you want to be NA or FI)? Once you know the direction you want to go, then you can develop a "to do" list. Ask questions first, spend $ second.
And SD tune is more geared towards FI, but it will still work.

read this for good info
I would not buy HP tuners I did and well lets just say it is way beyond what my brain is capable of.
You can spend several hundred dollars less and Allen can professionally tune your ride. Over and over mod by mod. All you would pay is shipping.
congrats on the new truck. :jump:
