whippled LQ4 cam ideas

I have a lifter sticking, so I'm taking this as a sign to get a lq4 ready to drop in its place. Right now, I'm running a 220/224 .564/.567 on a 115+2 LSA, and it seems to work very well with my combo. I know the bigger motor is going to want more cam, but I don't want to overdo it. I have a yank TT2600, but I'll have a PI 3000, 3 disk, by the time the new motor is ready. I'm also running 3.73 gears with 28" tires. The whipple is now making 10 psi. Everyone has good results with the GT2-3, but I've gotten great results from the current cam, and its going to take some convincing to get me to switch to something very different. Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

You are more advanced than I am. I'm running a much smaller cam than you are and considerably less boost.

I'm about to put in a Z06 cam to see if I like it better. Keep us informed on how your combo works!

You're not really going to gain much with a larger cam, the truck intake is a limit on top RPM power. The SSR intake would help a bit but I don't think you should spend cash for another camshaft grind.

Torque is what will propel you and what you need in that tank.

I don't want to waste money, but I don't want to half@ss it at the same time. I'm just wondering if a bigger split would be better for me? I'd also like to see more neg overlap. I never saw a cam card for this grind. I was just given the specs from the previous owner. Its still a question whether its a true 115 or the 115+2.

I'm running the smallest pulley whipple makes, and only seeing 10psi with no belt slip. Others are seeing 12+ with this setup, and 2.5" duals. I'd think my single 3" would be a little more restrictive, but I wanted it for the torque and stock appearance. This cam also has a noticeable lope, while idling around 700. All of this leads me to believe the cam is bleeding off some boost. Now that I'm starting out fresh with a new motor, I'd like to do it right. If that means using the same cam.. great; but if not, I'm prepared.

CarCraft had a huge article about a year back about boost and nitrous cams, unless you're making HUGE power they didnt do much of anything. Surprised me too. Widening the split can result in more negative overlap, I posted the math up on GMFS a while back. I THINK it is:

Add durations, divide by four. Subtract LSA, multiply by two. :nutz:

Single 3" is certainly hurting you. You could always go 2.5" duals into a 4" Y-pipe. 3" duals may be a tad overkill but I dont know what your total goals are...

With 10-12psi you shouldn't have any torque issues.

hmm.. the cams I was looking at don't provide that much more neg overlap than I already have.

I knew the exhaust was holding me back up top. I've been considering a single 4". I already have a nice custom 2.5" y-pipe. I'm just going to drop the rebuilt 6.0 in and spray at the most a 150 shot.

You have headers I'm sure... right? lol You could do 3" y-pipe and a single 4".

That's a LOT of cylinder pressure you're talkin about with 150hp MORE from the juice. You're going to be in the 700-800tq range at the flexplate, pay attention to the rest of the driveline.

Do you have meth injection yet?

hell yeah. I wouldn't be at 10psi without it. I have the Snow stage 2 kit.

Hell, you could just modify the Pacesetter y-pipe to uncork it more up front. Magnaflow has a 4" in/dual 2.5" out from my memory.

I'd be more concerned about all the heft (6500lbs?) and that 10bolt junk. 9.5" SF is an EZ swap...

Okay cool, that's the same kit that's going on the running BMW @ 17psi. :smile:

Its a custom y-pipe, that looks alot better than the pace piece, IMO. I know they make a 4/4. I looked into it when I blew the dynomax apart last month. Its the race series though. LINK

Nah...its only 5400, according to EFILive. I guess 5800 including me, fuel, junk, etc.

Yeah the Pace is so-so. Could run that muff and a resonator further up...

That's it? I thought my Z was about 5600lbs.
