threw rod in 4.8 need replacements suggestion 6.0?

I have the cast iron block lr4 4.8 in an 04 rcsb. I just threw a rod and bent a valve. the block is fine so I am wondering why I couldnt just bore and stroke it? I am going to rebuild it myself and I think it would be cheaper to get a rotating assembly and take it to the machine shop. because even if I do get a 6.0 block I will have to get the machine work done and Im buying aftermarket heads either way I go. what else will be involved in this swap other than the tranny issues? can the block i have just be machined. ????? help

also what crank do you use to stroke the 6.0 out to 408?

For the money, swap out a 6.0L long block and you'll gain lots and save lots of money in the long run. Later when you have the time and money available you can have a 402 or 408 made out of it and it will be a seasoned block(much better than a factory new block). If you shop around you should be able to get a 6.0L long block for less than $1000, just call all the salvage yards in your area. Try to get a 2002 or newer engine due to some of the early blocks having a longer crank snout(lets you reuse your flywheel/flexplate).

A stock bore 6.0L with a 4" stroke makes a 402. Bore it +.030" oversize to 4.03" and you have a 408. You could just start with the stock 6.0L and run it untouched until you're ready to pay for the forged rotating assembly or have learned how to do things with just one arm because the other one goes to Eagle or Callies.

theres a guy (not gonna mention any names so i dont give away his secret) but i know someone on here... that is goin to be runnig a 6.0 and instead of paying 3-5k more to get it stroked out... he is going to keep it the same and run a big set of heads and things of that nature.... and instead of paying, lets just say $4000 more, he only loses about 50 hp... easily gained by a small shot

hahaha well at least I get to keep the leg. !! My budget for this thing is 4500. I should be able to get to 408 with that correct? what are the power specs stock? I hear it is only like 335 or something? what is my 4.8 pushin geez. that would be like 87 horses in my little motor that cant. lol what will the 408 be looking at on the dyno on a budget but still ready for forced induction soon afterwards? I am doing this all within the month and really need to know where to look and want to do it myself. cam suggestions??? valvetrain suggestions?? should I mill the heads???

I bought a 408 for $3600 and a set of Patriot heads. The heavy assed truck ran an 8.43 with it. That's right at 500 HP at the crank. It could have been better but I had Allen do a very conservative tune on it and pull about 6 degrees of timing out of it during the break-in period. There's a lot more in it, for sure.

For machine work, try quarter time performance in Temple. Nice work and reasonable too!

Ive been using big three over there are they any good? I tried to get him to do some work on a 383 and they wouldnt do any performance mods??&#33;&#33;??@@??##??

it&#39;s under I-35 on West 57th street. It&#39;s a bitch to find, but a nice shop.
