Just ordered a Detroit Truetrac and 4:10s for the '92. Next are Caltracs.
Going to try and get it together by the DFW meet if at all possible.

Sounds good. When do we start?
soon Greg. I've got the itch bad!!
hell yeah man i wish i had enough money for 4.10's but id have to go front and rear, let us know how it comes out
I will keep everyone posted. Hopefully I'll have time in the next day or so to get the cam and springs in the motor. I have the mounts and adapters ready. I just want to do a little cleaning before sitting the motor in. When its sitting in there it will be even more motivating.
I want to hear what that 110lsa cam is going to sound like and how the truck is going to pull. Should be fun!
oh man you know we are gonna need a few vids/sound clips of some take offs and idle.
wish it was the 6.0 instead of the 5.3. Still a great motor though.
It sure is tempting to go with a th-400 instead of the 4L65 until you think about the 4:10s.
Not sure what I'm doing about the exhaust yet. I have a set of 6.0 manifolds that are ported and coated. More than likely true duals and Magnaflow mufflers.
that 5.3 will be mean enough for the 65e and 4.10's....get er done!!!!!

 ???? What is the differance between the stock 5.3 exhast manifold and the 6.0 ???
Larger ports? Different hole pattern? Will the 5.3 pipes hook up to the 6.0 manifold? It would be a good upgrade. Looking at going faster!!!
Thanks :hshake:

How long did it take you to port those? What did you use?
including smoothing out the mounting holes for the heat shields, it took about 8 hours. I used a couple of carbide bits. It is a little bit of a pain.
Whats a source for carbide bits in dfw?
I had a friend that worked in the fab shop for Vought Aircraft. He brought a few over that I used.
They need to be good bits though. Harbor Freight specials wont work. :nono:
They have lasted so well, I havent had to get anymore yet.
I'm sure Red will chime in about a location.
Any place that sell end mills and cutting tools for machine shops will have good carbide bits. Like Billy said, Harbour Freight, Northern and places like that sell crappy carbide bits. I buy mine through J&L industrial tool supply.
the pics dont do em justice..they are very nice...
