Yeah, it will work but if you don't have forced induction, you'll lose power. It makes more HP than a normal cam would in an FI application but less in an naturally asprirated engine. The cam is designed to take advantage of the pressurized air pushing the fuel through the cylinders. The cams that guys are running with a 224/224 duration work better than this cam if you don't have FI. If a turbo is in the works, I'd go for it. Comp said that it's one of their best turbo grinds.

Is this the cam you were currently running Red? Why would you lose hp? I mean I can see not getting the full potential out of your engine but actually losing hp over stock... ?

I guess is cause the cam is design to hold compresion, probably is slowest that the original cam, cause is waiting for someone to make the job of pushing the air in and out.

The N/A cams most do this on Atmosfere presure, so the ramps most be fasters to let the air go out and let more air to go in........just guessing.

On my 2wd truck I'm going to STS, Allen told me I have to change my cam to take adventage of the GT67 turbo.....Do you think that cam would help me?

Oh yeah, it sounds sweet too. You'll need springs that will handle the lift but it's an awesome cam. When I sprayed the NOS, the engine was a beast. It was recommended by Comp that I go back to a different cam since 99% of my drive time is naturally aspirated. They told me that the cam could still be a benefit if I was doing nothing but racing this engine and spraying NOS or using some kind of forced induction but they suggested a whole new profile for the 408 engine.

Yeah, that was the cam I was running. The design was intended for a totally different purpose than what I was using it for. Comp told me to expect HP losses using that cam NA. With spray or FI it is hard to beat the profiles of that cam.

Not trying to argue or anything, but I just can't see a cam with that much duration and lift over stock regardless of it's profile or intended use causing a loss in power over stock. :twocents:

I am running Manley dual springs with titanium retainers. They are staying for the new cam since it's going to be over .600 lift. Comp 918s aren't big enough for this cam. Billy at TRTTURBO can get you a nice set of Patriot Performance high lift springs for a very good price.

You'll need 7.4" long hardened pushrods for pretty much any comp cam.

Cool.

Is this too big a cam for the stock 5.3 with 6psi? I have the nelson tune, but the truck is my daily driver so i dont want to overkill it with too big a cam and i dont have a stall converter yet.

I had it in my 5.7L basically stock engine and it ran fine even with just a crack of the throttle. Allen had it tuned to run pretty good in my truck. We never finished the tune due to my transmission taking a crap on us and a rain storm blew through closing the track down for the night. You're more than welcome to call Comp with the cam specs and ask their opinion of it in your application. It's a badass cam and it really sounds sweet. My truck was used as a daily driver and I loved the instant off throttle power it put out. I can only imagine how much better it would work with a turbo in front of it. The tech guy at Comp asked me why I was running it without a blower though. He said it was inefficient without some kind of FI.
