Ok i was thinking about getting some 05 fans, but i have been reading up on the power drains that some people have had. I was wondering if Allen or someone else has made any modifications to the wiring harness so that it does not drain the battery. Any input would be great on how to combat the power drain with a stock 105amp alternator. thanks.
They may pull a heavier load but my Fbody light duty alternator keeps up with the fan's drain.
Change to 145A.
well if i put them on is it going to be a noticable drain and will it hinder like gas mileage and performance?
It should improve your performance. My fans run on HIGH when the A/C is on and I sit in stop and go traffic for 30-45 minutes every afternoon M-F and the battery does not lose but .3 volts by my radio's digital voltmeter.
hey redheart, do u have a 105amp alternator too also is there a way to run the fans on low with the a/c on or does one always have to run high. O yeah if i do get the harness from nelson, do i have to put it together myself or is it already assembled.
Yeah, my Pioneer radio has a digital voltmeter display built into it. It's nice.
The Nelson harness will turn the fans on low when the A/C kicks on. I wired my self-dreamed-up harness to run the fans on high with the A/C.
The Nelson harness is already assembled nice and pretty. Both fans run at low speed with the A/C on unless the engine gets too hot and then the PCM commands High fans.
Do you have a Nelson tune already or own HPTuner software so that you can enable the fans in the PCM?
no im thinking about getting one cause i know i have to turn pin 42 on and so forth. so use2bfo it still drained the power even though the two fans turned on low?
I think Use2's problem was he got a Monday harness. Should have bought one built on Wednesday or Thursday. :laugh:
haha didnt the old nelson harness make the a single fan come on high when he a/c turned on, or is this the same one?
Mine cycles on high with the A/C.
ok so how do i get one that cycles the fan on low when the a/c is turned on. i also have a 02 avalanche if that helps.
I'd call Allen and find out how it's supposed to work. It can be set up either way. John can answer your question if he's the one who answers the phone, he builds the fan harnesses.

my truck works great with the 05 fans and Nelson Harness. this harness looks factory and is easy to install, i notice no voltage drop at since install. when i turn the a/c on 1 fan will run all the time. I can t hear the fans till i shut the truck off and hear them slow down. On my ride they come on at 190*. truck never runs over 190* and most of the time runs 180* according to my interceptor gauge. Stock gauge reads 210* but its LYING!! :lol:[indent]BTW, you have a 34 " Raditor? you have to have it for the 05 fans to work.

does anyone know if i get the nelson harness, does the connectors for the fans come with the harness. i mean for the 05 e fans.
Yes, specify if you have the LS1 or 2005 Silverado fans when you order and they will put the appropriate connector on the fan ends of the harness.
what do u think the best temp for on and off settings should be with a stock tstat. thanks
no one knows the best or a good setting for the on and off temps on a pcm for fans?

Depends on what thermostat you have installed...
i got a stock one. i believe its a 195 if im not mistaken
Ok well just to inform you all i talked to someone in sales and they said that they can only run the fans to turn one on high when the a/c comes one. They can not do it with both fans on low. At least that is what this one guy told me, i didnt get the name though.
both fans on low until 230 degrees a/c or not and when its over 230 it will turn on both fans on high...makes more sense than getting really complicated with 1 on high,2 on low...whos on 1st....I gotta get some sleep :eek:
do u have a link to the design u guys did? O yeah the guy on performance trucks i believe only sells ls1/lt1 harnesses i dont think he has the connectors for the 05 fans.

wait but those are for the 04 and up right, I have an 02. Is there anyway to get around it or do i have to let the amp draw go?

I suppose you have a truck PCM? First thing is to get the fans turned on in the PCM. Next, build your relay setup or buy one Allen's. Allen will send you the pins for the PCM. If you're going to try it yourself, I can send you some short leads with pins that you can wire into your system. If you have a Camaro/Corvette engine PCM the fans are already in there.
ok that would be cool, but when i get my fans turned on do i need to have them turn on PIN 33 to or is it already on? Also do i have to have the pcm turn the fans on at 230 for high or will it do it automatically. I looked at the diagram and i kinda understand what i have to do, so i just need another relay and another pin and just do a little rewiring right? I also i know ive said it before but i want to make sure that it will work with an 02 truck pcm. thanks.

Be sure to use the 1/4" spade terminals that are completely insulated if you make your own harness. That will protect from any possible shorts at the terminal. Most of the quick connects for relays I have purchased have too small of wiring on the pigtails to carry the load the fans will require. Nelson builds his own connections and puts whatever size wire he wants as pigtails and they can carry the load. I would say to get the Nelson harness and make changes to it to suit your needs if you don't like how it works. Most guys love it and it's simplicity. I don't know if I'd build one myself due to how easy it is to get everything you need from Nelson and his is nice and clean with all the correct connectors. I know I spent at least 4 hours doing mine plus I had to chase down all the parts. With the price of gasoline these days, why bother?
ok sorry another question. Now once i get the pcm pin 33 and 42 turned on. Do i have to have them set with different temps. like for example pin 42 with and on and off. Then have pin 33 with another set of temperatures. thanks. Also if i do have to set the temp for pin 33, what temp should i set it too? 230 or 220? stock tstat
