So we are doing a 4.3 to 6.0 swap in a 99 nbs truck. We have the motor in but we have noticed that the very front of the oil pan is hitting on what I think maybe has something to do with the powersteering box? Its a long round cylinder type thing that runs behind the back of the first or second cross member. What do we need to do to make this work? take out the pan and modify it or is there some kind of aftermarket pan we can buy? thanks for you input!
Sounds like you have the engine sitting too low.

Is his truck lowered any? If so, was it an even amount at both ends? What I'm getting at is that you can get a level and measure the bottom of the transmission pan or oil pan and compare it to your's or a stock truck, something close to the same rake as his. That will let you know if it's sitting level or not. You could measure from the end of the transmission to the ground and then the front pulley to the ground and compare it to something else similar to see if the measurements are close. Doesn't matter the distance to the ground, just the difference from one end to the other.

These measurements are to see if the engine is sitting too low. You'd have to take a few other measurements to reference a location on the frame to see where the engine is sitting. You should have most of those measurements in your reference manual on your frame machine if you have one.
I was under the impression that the 6.0 should bolt right in a nbs truck since the 4.8, 5.3 do. Should it not be just a matter of having the right mounts?
I'd be very curious to know the ins and outs of doing this swap.
My '04 v-6 truck may get a make over under the hood.
Are you going to try and make the factory gauges and everything else work?

We have a new PCM so everything should.
As for the frame machine red. We have a karr Grabber frame machine and body Lock Systems, along with A computerized arm with a comp full of measurment back at the shop. Ill have to check it in the morning when I get there. What about the GM crash reference manuals. Will that have anything in it? BC we have every volume from the early 90s and newer. Thanks Man

I would think the crash reference manual should have everything you need but I've never worked in a body shop so I'll let you be the expert. :thumb:

I'm not saying the gauges wont work as I have not had to do a swap like this. That would be great if everything just plugged in. I will be following this in hopes of getting more new info. If its just a matter of 6.0, harness, pcm and install, I'm all over that for my truck.
As far as the mounts, unless its changed, the 4.3 has mounts just like an older sbc. We have adapter plates that mount to the genIII block and have sbc mounting holes also. I'll post pics when I get to work.

Well after reading your post and looking at the pics in LS1 conv. I think I understand what kind of problems your having now. Looks like you either need to shim the mounts to raise the motor up or like Red said it is sitting unlevel and the trans. needs to sit lower.

That or get on ebay and buy the plates for $39.00.
There is a sketch on here somewhere that shows you how to make the plates out of 1/4" plate steel. It has all the dimensions, too.

the mounts are to adapt a gen III engine where a sbc style motor mount was used.

Check the photos out to see if that helps. Think about the mounts pointing towards the rear instead of the front.
I just noticed that they are reversed. Jeff, did your truck have a V6 in it originally?

Yeah, Hooker makes them, too. You can make a set using maybe $5 worth of materials and about 4 hours of labor.
ok the set of mounts i have both have 4 bolts going into the engine just like the plates do, but wtf is that braket attached to the plates, i dont have anything like that??????
Are you talking about the cups that bolt to the mount on the crossmember
There are two types of mounts out there. There are the 4 bolt mounts that the GEN3 engine uses and then there is the 3 bolt mounts used in the GEN1 engines. The GEN1 engines used a cup, like in Jeff's picture, bolted to the engine block with 3 bolts. The engine mount was bolted to the crossmember in the GEN1 engine and the adapter plate moves the GEN3 mounting location over the crossmember. Can you take pictures of what you currently have for engine mounts?
