Ok, I am trying to stab the engine in the frame (have the cab in place). I have the S&P plates. Pointed end towards the front, and the studs on the top, Is this the correct position? It seems like the engine is too far back, and I couldn't get it into place w/ the mounts where they are.
If I flip them over the stands hit the manifold on the drivers side and the strter bolt on the pass. side.
Was your previous engine V6 or V8?

The frame was a V6, but I removed those mounts and got some from a V8 along with V8 stands.
I got the mounts right now, but a new problem has arised. I cannot get the mounts down so the holes line up. The ears on the stand hang up on the metal tabs sticking out from the frame mounts.
take some pics of what you're talking about. Your V8 mounts should bolt directly to the crossmember and then the engine mount cups should slide right over them when you install the engine.
98hd, I know what you're talking about. Take and loosen the frame mounts. This will let them move into position where your 4" "through bolt" holes will line up. Then you'll have to drive them through easy with a hammer. Once you get everything lined up, mark the frame mount position on the frame or just tighten them up.

It's close, but just dosen't want to go all the way.
It's almost as if the mounts are set too wide apart to fit. They hit on the built in metal piece that sticks out on the top of the poly mount on the frame.
I'm using the stock spacer behind the stands on the engine, as the stands have a bulge and need the spacer to sit flat against the S&P adapter.
The frame side mounts do bolt right to the frame, and I have the v8 stands.
take the mounts off the engine and cut or grind the humps off the reciever cups to pull them closer together. That bump that hits the mount plate screws up the distance between the mount holes. Don't put spacers or washers between the mount cups and the S&P adapters.

Also, should my manifold outlet on the pass. side be hitting the upper rear control arm mount? Engine is a 2000 LS1 if that matters.
Nope, should not be an issue, though I have the 98 sheetmetal manifolds. I had truck exhausts on my other engine and it wasn't an issue there, either.

Well, the mounts are closer to sliding over now that I removed the spacers and cut out the humps, but still not enought.
Also, my exhaust manifold is still hitting in that location. Something isn't quite right I think, or my manifolds just won't work or something.
Slot the holes about 1/8" where they go into the frame on both sides to pull the mounts out further. I'd just take the exhaust off until you are done with the install and fight that battle later.
I know the 88-98 body trucks have different chasis. Here's what I had to do to get my 5.3 to sit properly on the V8 frame brackets:
Brackets (Upside Down) with slotted holes (approx 3/4")

Slotting the frame brackets allowed me to move the brackets upward/outward, thus giving the right distance to line up with the motor mount brackets that were bolted to the block. I had to really look at your last pic. With that in mind, looks like you'll be doing what RedHeartBeat said. For my '86, I had to drill more than 1/8". Take your time, and you'll get it right.
Man I didn't have any trouble setting mine in! It fit like it was made for this frame.

From what I see in the picture, the tabs in the poly mounts are angled wrong. That motor should drop right in without having to grind on anything. You should be able to loosen the polymounts and the notches on the motor mount brackets should slide right on top of the poly tabs. Did the poly mounts come with the casings or did you use the factory one's? Looks like the poly inserts themselves need to be turned 180 degrees by the looks of the pictures.

Well, it was a PITA to change them, and now I get to do it again. I thought you might be right, but it ended up making the top tabs closer together, and the lowers further apart.
Who ever thought putting in a motor would be this hard. :bash:
Mine was a pig also in this 93 truck. I still have the rubber mounts and had to pry and leverage them around to get the bolts through the mounts.
98hd, Sorry for the pain bro! I should have told you to measure the tabs first before pulling them. Sometimes it's hard to judge by a picture but we gotta try. If you haven't installed the mounts you might want to try taking them to an auto parts store and comparing them to the factory mounts. There's just something that doesn't look right with the poly mounts and I can't pinpoint it.

Actually the tabs look like they are in the same orientation to me. Mine may be tilted a little more towards horozontal than yours, but it's hard to tell. I'm gonna try and play some more with it tomorrow.

Good eye... That's it. Even the mounts I used have tabs that are straight vertical (if you sit those mounts on a flat surface). When I first started test fitting, I bent the heck outta the outer tabs to see how the block would fall in. Of course, I did the lazy thing of hoisting the entire powertrain in at once.
Those red mounts ARE different.
