Well the tranny finally took a dump on me this afternoon, going to build it to a 4L65e. What are the main differences between the 60 and 65e? I am also having billet 1-2 and billet od servos put in as well as a trailblazer TC. Finally the TB converter to go with the cam!

the 60e has 4 pinion planetaries and the 65e has 5 pinion planetarys. Thats the diff i was told, may be some slight other differences, but my 60e was upgraded to a 65e.
The 3-4 clutches are much better in a 4L65E. Also, have the front pump updated/improved to reduce cavitation/starvation. The more research you can do before you have it rebuilt, the more things you'll want to do to it. I'm thinking seriously about the Transgo vacuum modulator to improve transmission reliability.

4L60e's in the F-bodies. They came with Corvette servos installed from the factory.
had mine built to 65e stats w/ all hard parts and restalled stock tc...it's bad ass!!!!
i'm gonna just have to get it as quick as i can, paying for rental car as we speak. lol He is going to build it to GM's 65e specs, so whatever is different is what is being changed, add the billet servos and the TB stall!
Man let me tell ya though, its violent when these things go! My buddy heard the clunk and he was 50 yards ahead of me!

yea i needed mine pdq as well since i was at work at the time it xploded...they picked it up wednesday noon and i drove it away saturday noon....
yea when that input shaft twisted into it shook the whole damn truck and WOW what an xplosion under there :eek:
I drove mine 6 hours out of state slipping badly and praying the whole way! Lets just say the ride home was better :devil: GOOD luck on your tranny chris, you doing a shift kit too?
nah no shift kit, I can always add that later, i have the vette servo currently but wanted to upgrade to the billet. This was just a big excuse to get the TB stall lol. But I also wanted to go beefier than the lil 60e! I tried making it home in mine, i made it 3 miles with grinding every time i let off the gas!

I've seen where you can pick up a brand new 4L65E with new converter for $2270. I wonder if it will hook right up without any changes.
65 should be a bolt up. The mods are internal. When you mod a 60 to a 65. Use to work at a tranny shop.
Yeah, some of the valve body stuff is different but I wouldn't think it should affect anything. I wonder if the electronics of a 65 are identical to a 60.
The input shafts on the trucks are different than the F-bodies right? & I think the case is beefier or something, at least thats what the guy at the local tranny shop told me. That's why I was thinking maybe the F-body had the L65. I guess it's just wishful thinking huh
Basicly a 65 is just a beefed up from the factory version of a 60. Gm just tried to fix some probs and complants ppl had. If you take your 60 to a tranny shop and they update it like they should you will basicly have a 65.

the electronics may be a hair different, on hptuners there is a selections for what tranny you have, maybe the signals are just a hair different, who knows. Or maybe they just put that there for shits and giggles.

Well it turns out my rearend blew up and took the transmission with it. So guess what, I get a new rear end to go with it. I wanna stay with 3.73's, anyone have any suggestions for an aftermarket rearend or should I just get this one rebuilt?

One guy came over to me and goes "DAmn dude whatd u do to that truck!", there was a trail of gear oil from the door of the service bay all the way over to the lift. lol

well luckily when they pushed it into the shop, only the cover blew off and I didnt damage the case. They told me it was just waiting to happen, it was really loose in there. Allen is going to set me up with some shifting tables for the stall so I should be set for awhile after I get all this fixed.

There is a 4L70E now that they put in the Trailblazer SS. From what I understand it's a beefier 4L65E, which was never in an f-body btw.

I ended up not getting the billet servos and just reusing my vette servo.
As for the stall I ended up with a 2500 Hughes converter, it wasnt the 2800 Allen recommended and I was hoping for, but they can overnight it and it'll do alot better than stock. I hope this thing holds up alot better than the stock 4l60e pos.
