Changing Borla Exhaust

I have had my Borla XR1 Race Muffler for 2 years now, it is 3"In 3"out and 12" long. I am replacing it because the casing on the outlet side blew out and i really wasn't happy with how it sounded. I am looking for suggestions on what to go with next. I want a dual 3"in 3"out 40 series flow, but can't seem to find one. I am fixing to put my LT headers on and want to totally redo my exhaust. Also I have no cats and 3" pipe all the way to side exit gibson sport tips. With the Borla it was more like a big glasspack and it sounds shitty right before it shifts into every gearwith a fluttery popping sound. It has that Redneck popping noise that sounds like you are running a big block through 1" exhaust pipe. Will the flowmaster change the fluttery popping noise between shifts. It oly sounds that way when cruising around and sounds decent when you hammer on it. Need some suggestions and if you have some sound clips it would be great.

You'll probably have to buy two 3" mufflers and stack them side by side. Flowmaster also has a canister type muffler similar to a glasspack but I've never heard them on a vehicle other than a 55 that they built on HorsepowerTV. They sounded good on it.

I am wanting to get away from the glass pack type muffler, i think that is what is causing the annoying fluttery popping noise. My truck just sounds like an old truck with cheap glasspacks. I am hoping that a flowmaster chambered type muffler will kill some of that noise before it hits the tips.

Check on Magnaflow, thay sound great and flow better. I have a Borla and really like it but everyone is different!

Flowmaster will get rid of some of the popping, and create it in other places. Mine pops some without cats, but not much. I have a dual in/dual out muffler so it combines both banks and cancels most of that out. Its just a nice smooth tone at idle. Its a Super 40.

Sweet, i want a good deep tone, i already have electric exhaust cut outs for when i feel a little frisky, so i really want a good sounding muffler. my buddy has a camaro flow turned backwards and it sounds frggin' sweet, but he would be pissed if i copied him. :smile:

I have the 22" single in, 3" single out Magnaflow on my &#39;04 5.3. Very quiet at idle and while cruising, but mash the pedal and you know it is there. There are sound clips at www.magnaflow.com. I like it alot. No popping, droning ,etc. All stainless system as well.

i had magnaflow on my old &#39;05 CCSSB. liked it, but wished it was louder

Yeah it Magnaflow wasn&#39;t very loud on the website, hopefully the flowmaster will kill some of the fluttery popping noises before the shifts. has anyone else experienced the noise i am describing, i think it has something to do with no cats and no backpressure and the tips that i am running. Aybody? :nutz:

Have you checked to see if you have any exhaust leaks I think that can cause that popping when you let out of the throttle, also I think if your running lean it will pop when you let out of it. Maybe someone else can verify this for me.

Have a true dual flowmaster setup with an x pipe and i do have some poping when slowing down, coasting down a hill or letting off the throttle quick but its not harsh, annoying or anything like a straight pipe pop, i love it and it sounds good although i wouldnt mind having diffrent mufflers to be diffrent and not sound like evryone else
