Yeah its funny when I go in there and can tell them more about they part than they can tell me.
Ya we were looking for an easy out kit today and they brought us a helicoil kit. I was like what the heck. It is all good though. Old cam is going to hit the trash can and new one going in. :thumb:
Everyone ahs to learn sometime just not behind an autoparts counter
My wife and had I stopped at the local O'Reilly's the other day and while I was looking at the chemicals, the store clerk asked if she needed help. She said yes, was looking for touchup paint for her TA, the clerk said they didnt carry touchup paint, which pissed my wife off because she was standing in front of it, looking at it. So my wife, to prove her superiority even more so over this peon, asked if they had a Knueter valve for a 1980 Ford Escort and the clerk started looking it up. (Here is where it gets real funny)I am still looking at the chemicals, and this clerk who couldn't find the Knueter valve for a 1980 Escort, gets his boss to come over and help out. Hiss boss, a man in his mid 40's, who you would think knew his biz, attempted to look up the elusive part and admitted, "Ma'am, I guess we don't have that but I could call around on Monday and see if we can get you one. She said, "If you or your dumbass flunky knew your business very well, you would know that there is touch up paint in this store not to mention that there is no such thing as a Kneuter Valve you Idiot!" She then asked for his supervisor's number, went home and called the regional manager and I believe she actually got him fired or demoted.

hell hath no fury a woman scorned!
one of my friends told me the other day he was going to have to replace his MAP sensor b/c he was getting a code in his Cavalier. Well, turns out he got the code scanned at Auto Zone. The guy told him his MAP sensor was bad and he needed to get a new one.
I asked him if he has the code printout, he handed it to me and it was a MAF failure code that was checked! lol I said dude, ur in for a few more dollars to be spent, they told you the wrong part was out.
How the hell can you see the code for the MAF and be dumb enough to tell someone their MAP sensor is bad?
Chris
Because they have no clue most of the time. One of the guys need to take a converted 80's model to the parts store for a part. Show it to them and watch smoke roll out the ears and blood vesle blow in their forehead.
i was in the auto zoo the other day looking for a serp. belt for my truck. I give them this information first "2000 silverado, 5.3" They were actually pretty intellengent till this point "Sir, I'm not showing the listing for a 2k HDSS" when they said that i started ROTFLAMO "They never made a 1500 HD till like 03-04, and the did not make the SS till 03-04" But was very suprised that they could look at my grille and know it was and HD grille. Some times they are intellengent and some times they are just plain dumb asses
Most dont know how to think other than what the computer shows them. Heck they dont even know how to look something up in a catalog or a book anymore. :bash:
When I was in High School and Some College, mid to late 80s and Early 90s, I worked at several parts stores in town. We used to look everything up by parts catalogs. As I was leaving the parts business, they were getting the computers to look up the parts. I think this is where the gap started on knowledge. Now they rely on the computers even when they do not even know what the part looks like. Also lack of training.
James t
Oh man dont get me started on training. They are a joke when you talk about training. It is pretty much here is the computer push this button and this one. Ok go work the front counter. :nutz:
hell i dont know how many places i go that if the register doensnt work they dont know how to make change! how much money do you think these dumbasses in the parts stores cost people from misdiagnosis? thank god i have a great NAPA man in town here that pretty much is well versed on old and newer chevrolets. he drives a 69 nova/427 and newer chevy truck. i dont even waste my time at autozone any more! :puke:

I think Orielly's has some of the best parts if you buy the premium parts. First they try to sell you the aftermarket crap but they also have the first quality or original equipment parts, too.
Advance Auto has always been my best bet, lol mainly because I am teaching them the shit every time i go in there. If its about a NBS chevy and I've had the problem, they know how to fix it. They also know who to call for custom PCM tuning
Chris
The zone is junk anymore. Their parts have gone down hill farther and farther. They wanted me to manage a store I laughed so hard it is crazy. No thank you. I worked in the NAPA Indy D.C. and did comercial sales for Oreilly's. I still get calls from ppl that use to be customers of mine. Sometimes I even get calls from managers at the stores when they need help. I am like dang the part is right on the counter behind you. :nutz: I was working a deal with NOS systems to go out to the track and get some deals for the racers but the other managers just looked at me with a stupid look and said no one actually buys that stuff. I was like then why the hell do you even list it in a catalog. :bash: Heck the school in schertz/cibilo wanted to convert a van they used to a Holley Fuel Injection setup and the employees had no clue what they were talking about. Needless to say I had the parts ordered for them with in 15mins and delivered the next day. You have to think outside of the box. Wait I take that back you have to actually be able to think. That is what they are lacking. If the district manager can not even answer a simple question about products that are listed in your catalog you need to seriously look at the ppl you have working for you. It is a joke. I just wonder how many ppl have spent more money than they needed on the wrong parts given to them. 95% of these ppl are not mechanics or at least quality mechanics. Then what the hell do you think they are doing behind a counter. If you have no clue what a stinking part is and your manager has no clue then the district manager has no clue something is wrong. These suposed major suppliers had me going through my conections in the auto market to find parts because they were clueless. Sorry this post is so long but that stuff drives me nuts. They seriously need to revamp all of the parts houses for the most part because they have become a joke. :puke:
Hell, i busted one out at the Chevvy Dealership yesterday.
do you have a fog light kit for an 06 silverado?
No, chevy don't make a fog light "kit".
are you sure? b/c i've bought one in the past.
must've been an older truck
yeah, it was an 05
o wait a second, here's one
price?
$225
thanks (and walked out the door) what dumbasses!
god squirrel and Doc...you guys need to take it easy...
hey come on, to squirrel, an 05 Is an OLDER truck lol
ohh yeah man. i called autozone . to get batteries for my work truck. a 2002 GMC C6500. i told him and he said " are you sure they have a 6500? i said well im lookin at it right now. well then he said" take measurements of the battery call me back and ill try to find one with those dimensions for you..i said ookkkayyyyy. never mind. :nutz:
You got a point Josh. I guess I can be a hard a$$ sometimes. I guess I just have certain expectations. I will be a good boy now. :whack:
I've got to go in there tomorrow, I need some wire to finish out my lines for my LC-1 wideband, I am due to receive my EIO from hptuners next week! I have to run 2 lines from my fusebox area where it is powered, to the center of my dash where it will come out the bottom (I have the split bench seat w/no center console). I am interested to see what kind of recommendations on the guage that I get out of them. I wanna mess with their heads some, I just gotta think of something good I know they will screw up on.

Call the Chevy dealer and ask for "Price and Availability" for an '06 Silverado 1500 front bumper paintable top cap. The reply is, "Without a VIN we can not find that part. Go find an '06 with what you want and bring in his VIN."
That is flat A$$ Lazy..........
I went to the GM dealer in Round Rock and tell the parts guy I did not get my VHO stickers and want to see if he can find them while I am waiting for my truck at the service counter. I never told him what VHO was nor what year. He came back 5 minutes later and had a print out that showed me what they looked like and how much they would cost for him.... I know where I go now for parts!!!
oh hell they were talking about gettin the VIN number to look stuff up in Advance today. I was picking up some wire, wire strippers and electrical tape so i could finish wiring my connections for my wideband, and this guy came in with a 2500hd. I think it was an 05. Then they start talkin about which antifreeze you should use and the guy was like "DONT under any circumstance use the green stuff", the he proceeded to sell him the new yellow crap that can mix with anything supposedly. I was kind of close to them so I said "I've been running green in my 99 for a couple years now, why havent i had any problems?" He proceeded to tell my cause mine was a 99 and it was ok for me to use that! I just laughed an walked back to my isle.
That is crazy. The thing that really sucks is when you do find a good employee they usually screw him or her over and they leave. Then you are stuck searching again.
