Let my nephew borrow my truck to move furniture. Ran it out of methanol and apparently the stock motor doesn't like 10 psi w/ no meth. She's knockin an tickin pretty bad. Check engine light is on and for some reason the trans temp light came on for a moment???. It blew out the oil return line for the turbo and oil was everywhere. What would cause this? I asssume we got detonation with no meth and the crankcase pressure blew it out. It also pushed out the oil dipstick WTF? Has anyone elso done anything this stupid? :duh:

On the other hand, I get to build my motor. Help me find a good forged top end 6.0 short block for a good price. This will be done as quick as I can get the parts. 600 hp here I come.

When is the nephews funeral????

I can get you the hook up on parts though got my forged rotating assembly for 2500 bucks.

I guess it could be forged top end if you only wanted a set of forged pistons. :hshake:

Just pistons/rods/rings. I understand the stock crank is good for big hp (6-700).

I don't know if I should be Happy or Sad for you. I know that when my tranny blew I was actually sort of excited.

When you pull the motor out tap the oil pan for the oil return. It will clean up your engine bay and you won't ever have to worry about it popping off again. You probably broke a nice chunk of piston off. Maybe even a few pistons. That would mean most of your boost is blowing past the piston's strait in to the pan. That is why your dip stick blew out and probably why the oil return connector blew apart.

If you decide you want to stay with a 5.3L I have one at the machine getting built with no one's name on it. :thumb:

The stock crank can handle alot of hp but if you are tearing apart an engine why not go all the way and go with alot mreo cubes. I jsut couldnt bring myself to build a 370 when I could have a 418 but thats jsut me.

Pistons are still part of the bottom end heads cam and up are top end items IMO.

To answer your question if this has happened before YEP!! End of aug. my g/f slash wife was driving my truck to work.... I was having her Liberty serviced at our shop. Well somehow the high boost button got pushed while she was driving and it was out of meth( I wasnt concerned about it since meth doesnt even come on untill 8.5 psi. which is high boost)...... I got the phone call that the truck just stopped.....I got there to see a 12 ft puddle of coolant and 5w30 redline oil and a hole no bullshit 6 inches in dia. in the oil pan/block which was easy to see because the starter had been ripped off the block!All she could do was cry.. I felt really bad for her.But I bought a lq4 from Allen and a new cam and a 75 mm housing and as soon as work slows a little I will get back onto it. Best of luck getting her back together.

do you guys think a FMIC would be better than meth? i guess you wouldnt have to worry about running out of it if you had one. this is one of the reasons im going to buy one cause i dont want to worry about running out with the luck i have. :bash:

Newbomb turk wow she must have been in a hurry to use 8.5LBS of boost until the engine blows up! I can never stay on mine more than a few seconds then I have to slow down for traffic ect. Not to make fun of this I''m sure it wasn't funny. :sad:

How long will a tank of meth last? Do they come with an idiot light?

Jim as long as you dont run it low you will be fine. How long it will last is subjective cause it depends on where you set it to come on at and how hard you drive it. It comes with a little red light that comes on when it is activated. Generally the tanks on them are a gallon tank mjhoward has it on his truck set to come on at 8psi of boost going up to 13 with his radix. He gets on it probably twice a day 1st through second(60ish mph) think thats how he ahd it setup and it would last about a week and a half is what he told me. Its a good mod just have to set it up right and make sure you dont run it low. The light will only show whn th epump is on but it wont show that it is spraying the meth just takes the signal saying the motor is trying to spray meth into the engine so make sure its topped off.

You can always add a low fluid level sensor to the tank. Our 90 BMW 325i has a sensor through a hole in the side of the fluid tank and it comes on when low, not empty. That type of sensor will be handy to keep you from ever running out of methanol.

Thanks guys. Meth sounds like a mod I'd like. I'm such an ole woman about making sure things are maintained that I'm sure I'd never run low. Hell I'd be checkin it twice a day knowing me. :laugh:

It is decided. Billy at TRT is getting my motor together. I&#39;m copying the setup he did in the tahoe. 5.3 bored out to 5.7 specs. Forged rods,pistons, rings, arp bolts. I have a set of 317 heads professionally ported/polished. put my 918 springs on them. still unsure as to which cam. will prob put mine back in there for now. it just seems a shame not to put in a bigger one since it will be apart anyway. How about some input? is the 224 cam a monster? I will still be driving it everyday. Boosting 12-18 psi (undecided). Looking for 550-600+ hp with the crew cab in the 12&#39;s. :jump:

Comp makes a nice XER lobe 220/224 115lsa that would work well with FI and give good dd characteristics for your truck. There are a couple of guys running them in the SSS trucks and having good luck with them and a radix.

Get yourself a different bottle for you washer fluid and use the washer fluid res. as a meth tank. When it is low it will flash up on your dash check washer fluid.
