My buddy is putting a 454BB in his 85 chevy truck. My truck could be his truck's twin, they are identical same color and everything.
The motor came out of a vaga wagon drag car. It ran 6.40 in the 8th mile.
He's taken a lot of the timing out so he can run pump gas, But' he did install 3.73 and a posi.
Do ya'll think I'll be able to take him w/ the set up I have now. I don't think he will be abel to hook. :cry:
I may be doing the turbo kit sooner then I wanted.LOL :laugh:

Should I do the "well at least my truck gets good gas mileage" when he hand's it to me?
What do you think his truck will run? He's probably 2000lb more than that vaga. He won't hook and launch like that vaga. Plus less power from taking the timing out.Quote:

And went from 3in exh. on the vaga down to 2.25 on his truck.
I would guess mid to low 8s until he gets the rear end to hook up. A posi and caltracs should get him into the high 7s.
You better lube up, LOL, jk.
He's probably pushing close to 500hp at the engine and all that torque will get that heavy truck up and running.
If it was a stock 454, like in the 454SS trucks, you'd beat him, but once you start moddin those BB watch out.

I have a feeling that any BB engine that ran a 6.40 in the 1/8 isn't going to run out of top end. It may run out of gears but I bet that engine will pull hard to about 8,000 RPM.
Thanks guy's. All my hope is gone. Ill try and get a video clip when we run. That way everyone can have a good laugh at me.
If there are any Vega lover's out there sorry about spelling Vega vaga.
Go race him and prove us wrong! That's the only way we're going to know for sure.
At least you can beat him home, he'll have to fill up on gas.

Man Ill bet that kinda sucks. You are building this bad as engine. Then you have a close friend thats building something with the potential to not only kick your ass.. but it will even wipe it too. But your engine seems cool as hell man. There might be somebody out there that will give him a whooping too. You are running as cool truck with an even cooler engine. :cool: So its all good..He WILL whip ya though.. :laugh: But hey you would whip me so there now you are up there with him. well, the big block truck was just in the shop so we could do gauges.
It sounds like a pro mod car. You can literally hear it from a mile away.
Beatertruck will need the turbos to have a chance.
The big block will, however be a huge pain in the ass to drive as radical as it is.
Just think though, he could put a milder cam in that BB and still haul butt.
