What does everybody think of the big block zz502? I can't decide if I want to put it in my race truck or not. The picture attached is the Pro-flo EFI version. 540 hp.

Hows about a fastburn 385. Maybe the same horsepower, but about half the cost of a zz...
540 hp on a small block for an 8 hour race. don't think so.
If my guy can make it work, so can you, but, It's your $.. :bash:
I like it, the big blocks already have tons of torque and hp, and work a lot less compared to a small block, i say go for it, how else can you get that much power and reliability,
i'm sure you can build a sb with the same hp, but i wouldn't think it would last as long, just trying to keep up with the power of the big block.
later,
allen
The only problem is if I swap to a big block, I have to change mounts, transmission, etc.
What about a 8.1L new block, they put out a lot of power. I'd mod it so that is spins a bit higher, but that might work.
I'll have to check into it thanks.
I keep waiting for someone to try the 8.1l!! :thumb:
you and me both..cant wait for somebody to dump a ridiculous amount of $$$ into a 4th(?) gen big block(8.1)Quote:

i remember seeing a post on a mailing list, someone put a 8.1L in a C5 vette, i wonder how that turned out
Well I finally talked myself out of this engine. I'm gonna go for a 454 instead. Thanks
Guy over at PA (Y2klimited) put one in his tahoe recently.

Cool engine swap thanks. I finally decided to go with a 7 liter, 427 stroker supercharged at 12 psi. Thanks though.
All aluminum??
To be determined. I'm not gonna buy it for awhile. Too much money everywhere, and no job. (Raptor, Truck, new daily driver, trailer, college etc.)
I would stick with a small block or go with an all aluminum big block if i were you. You dont want that thing to get too nose heavy.
Also you technically dont have to change trannies. but since this is a full race truck you should run a TH400 no matter what motor you go with. Are you gonna professionally race this thing or what?? If so do you have any restrictions on the motor??
BINGO!!!! :thumb:Quote:

It's gonna be a race truck, has to have the same powerplant brand as the truck (chevy naturally), and the tranny is definately gonna be a built turbo 400. Aluminum is evident, but far from now.
If you arent gonna go with a aluminum big block, then maybe you should think about a stroker small block, with the right block you can go up to like a 422 with the C5-R block. I think youd be better off going that route. and it will still be a reliable motor as well. A forced induction motor would be nice too.
What kind of HP are you looking for
This is for sure what I'm going with. It's a small block, aluminum engine. Putting out close to 800 rwhp.Quote:

are you sure that's going to be enuff power, lol
damn, that is going to be awesome,
good luck,
allen
thanx. I hope to have it within' the next year or two.
See, theres nothin wrong with a small block! Told ya...
what can i say? when someone's right i admit it. :thumb:
your the man, boonie. Keep us informed with the steps. and more pics too.......... :pics:
A little late...but a BIG cube small block is badass. I am going to do a 408-439" motor for my F-150. I may go real large if I decide to get a FMS block!
my buddie had a fast burn 385 with the hot cam in it and a 200 shot. it was in a 94 2 door tahoe with a 10 inch whiplash kit and 4 1/2 body on 38s and it moved. this was about 3 years ago and it would beat new chevys at the time. the only problem was he would go through a 700r every month. I can get you a zz502 if you want. theres one sitting in my buddies shop, its the fuel injected one and it only has 1000 miles on it. has computer harness and all the stuff to bolt it up. let me know i can email you some pics i think he wants somewere from 4500 to 5k for it.
Nah it's cool. I'm gonna build a custom 427 aluminum small block.
but not for a while.
How about the GMPP ZZ572, i go look at that page ever once in a while to drool. 620 hp & tq or 720 hp & tq. Put a blower on the street version and think of the numbers....
Theres a truck here, a 79 GMC, reg cab short box 2wd.
He have a new zz572, 720HP and a NOS direct port system of 300HP. He have also a 4L80E, don't know the gear ratio.
Make the math. I have seen the truck cruising, but never raced it.
I belive, it might take anything on the road and the strip.
