I have Edelbrock Ceramic Coated Shorties on my truck and have always wanted long tubes, but didn't want to pay the price. I recently saw a post that stated that shorties only give you 3-6HP and long tubes will give you 20-25? Does this sound accurate? If it is true I wouldn't mind selling my shorties and going with Long Tubes. :thumb:
I think the big difference being that LT's offer a much bigger torque increase.

is there really a 20hp difference?
A 20hp gain just seems a bit much to me. I would say 10hp is more realistic. Long tube headers are known for there mid range torque increase, I still think the clamed torque increase is over rated as well. I have a rule, When there is a clamed power increase I will cut it in half and that usually make it more realistic to the buttometer.

I bought them from speed engineering, who sponsors the website. Got them for $350 + S&H.

I thought maybe this thread would produce such evidence but alas, not this time.... again. I think lots of us get the long tubes because they are perceived as being sexy, cool. Prove me wrong.
There are plenty of dyno charts showing 22hp gains from the pacesetters I have dynatechs on mine and they made a nice improvement. Jim take a look at your shorties then stock manifolds then lts you will see the difference and I promise you get some lts you will feel the difference no comparison. The only time I would think about shorties is if I had a radix where it will help with torque but even then I would rather have the hp gain from the lts since a radix makes such nice torque down low anyway.
They don't make any noticable power at all. I had a set of JBAs I threw on ebay... there's not even an increase in sound.Quote:

Also, I ran shorty headers on my F150 before going to LTs... while the shorty headers helped a BIT the stock manifolds are bricks on that truck. When the LTs went on there was a noticable increase in low speed as well as midrange torque.
Do what you want but when EVERYONE tells you NOT to do a mod, that's a pretty good sign that it isn't worth a damn...
I saw were a boy put a set of ASM's on his truck and he gained like 20rwhp and he had the chart to prove it, it was posted on LS1tech I believe while back. I was told shorties are not worht the money to go ahead and save lil more and get the "Real Deal" Long Tubes..... I noticed a big difference with my ASM's. Pacesetters are great headers for the price.
I believe it with the ASMS, with the price you better get a good gain.

Or buy em used I got my dynatechs for 500 bucks. Just gotta keep ur eye out on some of the other boards and you can get damn good deals for sure.
